"SRL is knowing how to learn and being aware of your progression of learning toward specific goals." Some helpful ideas, in the Edutopia article linked below, on how to help our middle years/high school students become Self-Regulated Learners: https://t.co/YnyoO3WjDS #srlcanada
@bcedchat Regarding authentic assessments and motivation for learning: "If students know what will be assessed and how it will scored, and if they believe that the assessment will be fair, they are more likely to be more motivated to learn" (McMillan, 2014, p.82).
@Ms_Nazem@charcreeves Absolutely! Even though I think we have autonomy as professionals, I sometimes feel there is pressure to pick a value/idea & go with it because it is the “fad”. Working on critically thinking and trusting myself to make decisions that are best practice for me.
Check out my post on curricular conceptions & leave a comment here sharing what u think. Is there one/multiple conceptions mainstream today? What I found was “…that we as educators are asked to “embrace one curriculum fad after another.” Link to my blog in bio.
@msjandre@charcreeves I completely agree. Maybe there isn’t one conception that’s best, but a mix depending on students and what they need at different times. Trusting ourselves, as professionals, to assess the situation is key.
@charcreeves Such a good point that I didn’t think of. Each group has their own expectations/values of what education should be. I often find parents prefer an academic conception, wanting homework & thinking projects are for fun. Could be that it was their school experience/what they know?
Twitter, meet my not so little anymore, Miss Murphy 🥰 She had the best day today! Found out she loves to swim, sticks that are larger than her, and boat rides with the wind in her hair.
