She knew well enough you did not love her son: she trusted you not to betray him by marrying him. It would be horrible to force her to hate you. . .unthinkable. #DustyAnswer2024 This female bond seems startling to suddenly appear in Judith. Is it Jennifer after all?
@literatureSC Yes, and it is true as we age we judge differently then we had when we were younger. We regroup our people into different categories, I suppose we call this wisdom.
@Christina5004@MoMcGran That is a lovely thought, but Judith seems to be stuck with Rody mania. Can she make the jump to a fulfilling life on her own ? She has money, the usual sticking point for women in this era.
I read this all in one go this afternoon. I think she goes through the entire book without saying exactly how many children she has? Or did I miss something. I am mum till everyone is finished, but I will say I enjoyed the psychiatric scenes immensely. #PumpkinEater#NYRBWomen24
@HorowitzKarin I guess there were no thunderstorms! I had thought there was a deeper meaning to his mealymouthedness than Peter Pan Syndrome , but maybe I will be disappointed?? Poor Judith, I fear her future. 😅
@literatureSC @imnjupiter @Christina5004 @Miss_Mainwaring @jake_longini I think there is plenty of plot, but don't mind me, it is just one woman's thoughts at one moment in time. 😍
@literatureSC @Miss_Mainwaring @Christina5004@jake_longini I am enjoying Dance well enough, I think I am secretly yearning for Proust, perhaps even the time of our confinement, when we all gathered around the fire of the Duchesses, the young girls, the love of Hawthorne trees, those gorgeous long sentences, the irrational love of men.
Chapter 2 seems only to continue the questions begun in Ch 1, mostly who is Judith to hook up with, of course, but also what is the deal with the mother, what is wrong with Marielle, and why oh why doe Judith still yearn for Roddy? #DustyAnswer2024
