it’s nice to be appreciated. sure, we’ll take that free coffee. also, pay us fairly. schedule human breaks into our day. fair family leave. autonomy to make professional decisions. safe & clean working conditions. reasonable deadlines. funded classrooms. class sizes. as a start.

Teachers are expected to sacrifice their health (covid), mental health (trauma, stress) & lives (guns) to keep teaching.

This is not sustainable. People are fleeing the field. Soon there won’t be any teachers left. Imagine the learning loss then.

It won't be long before they tell teachers that an open discussion of the 2nd Amendment is a "divisive issue" and thus off-limits. Because it makes some people feel "uncomfortable"

You want to support children?

Attach a pediatrician's office to every school building in the country. Make regular checkups a part of the school year. Make it all free, knowing that in the long run a healthy country is a better county.

This is wild: the Panel for Education Policy just failed to approve the formula that determines how much funding every NYC school gets.

The mayor appoints the majority of members and... they did not muster the votes to approve the administration's proposal

My 3rd graders tested the entire day. We are all physically & emotionally drained. No one will be able to use any of the resulting data to help them learn. This was pointless

Here's an idea:

This year we do Daylight Savings during the day on Monday. At 2:00 PM all clocks transition instantly to 3:00 PM and we get one hour less of work.

I don't think people in other professions know how much work being absent is for a teacher, and how often we show up sick because of it.
