#WATCH | Delhi | On the arrest of Former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Journalist with Sri Lankan newspaper ‘The Island’ S Venkat Narayan says, "I'm surprised by his arrest. There is no corruption involved in what he did. He went to Cuba to attend a G77 summit. Then from Havana, he went to New York to attend the UN General Assembly. On the way back to Colombo, he stopped by in London. His wife, who is a professor of English, normally comes to Jaipur for the Jaipur Literary Festival. A local university invited both of them to a ceremony. From London, he stopped by and drove 200km to Wolverhampton... The expenses involved in Maitre's (Wickremesinghe's wife) travel were taken care of by her. The Sri Lankan government is saying that the 10 other people who went to Wolverhampton with them were government employees, and they used them for a private trip. And then they arrested him. This is not a corruption at all... The security has to be provided to the president, even if he is a private individual... The President of Sri Lanka cannot keep the security back and drive to Wolverhampton..."
@SL_PoliceMedia@RW_UNP We have a trust on the implementation of law and order by Police. Several complaints were made regarding violation of fundamental rights by another party. BTW, Mawanella police play a silence role due to some influence and/or favors @RW_UNP@SagalaRatnayaka Thanks to attend!
@SL_PoliceMedia Congratulations!
Salute to brave, intelligent and loyal police officers @SL_PoliceMedia. BTW, I am deeply concern over some police officers actions and behaviors interms of addressing the complaints by mawanella police station @RW_UNP. As a professional, still I do have a hope.
Honoured to present “Buddhism and International Humanitarian Law”, 1st major study on intersection between Buddhist teachings and IHL, supported by @ICRC, to the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters in 🇱🇰. The book can be downloaded for free: https://t.co/7XYPmxwT07
I have arrived in Gaza, where people’s suffering is intolerable.
I repeat our urgent call for civilians to be protected in line with the laws of war and for aid to enter unimpeded.
The hostages must be released and @ICRC allowed to safely visit them.

For 2 days, 700 + families from 44 contexts around the world exchanged experiences at 3rd International Conference for Families of Missing Persons - online. Among them - 37 families from Sri Lanka. #ICRC continues to support them in their search for their missing loved ones.
#Gaza: there is little time to grieve or carry out funeral services & rites.
Some families have begun to wear identification bracelets, or are writing names on the arms of their children, to increase the chance they can be identified if they die. https://t.co/ErnoGeoos6
As bombardments intensify, people cannot reach @PalestineRCS to call an ambulance.
We’re deeply worried @ICRC for the safety of first responders and for all civilians in #Gaza. There is no safe place to go.
Civilians and health facilities must be protected.
#Israel#gaza : to know more about the rules of international humanitarian law (IHL) applicable to the situation and about ICRC’s work & its neutral, impartial and humanitarian role, please read 👉 https://t.co/9zskC1V9If
My urgent plea to the parties to the conflict in Israel and Gaza.
@ICRC is ready with medicine and other relief items. Entry must be granted, and our teams in Gaza must be allowed to work safely and effectively.
The situation is critical.
Multiple medical workers are being killed while bringing lifesaving care to people in need.
Tragically @Mdais and @PalestineRCS are mourning the deaths of their colleagues. I offer my deep condolences.
Humanitarians and civilians are #NotATarget.
Not ever.
#WorldMentalHealthDay Not knowing if their loved one is alive or dead, families of missing persons from all communities in Sri Lanka continue to suffer. Debilitating effects of living in uncertainty should be acknowledged. Time does not heal. Only answers do.

Today - My urgent call with @antonioguterres for new international rules on autonomous weapon systems to protect humanity.
The autonomous targeting of humans by machines is a moral line that we must not cross.

Today, we mark the #InternationalDayoftheDisappeared . The plight of the families of missing persons, waiting for answers about the fate and whereabouts of their loved ones, needs to be heard.
