Fun times preparing for Open House in 5th grade! It is important to stop in the middle of a math unit sometimes to allow 10 year olds to create art and dive into whats happening in the world around them. Teachers create lifelong learners! @SamfordEd
Words cannot describe how much I’ve learned from @MsSelfExEd and all of the teachers & students during my student internship at @FultondaleElem! I will miss teaching my students in the reading resource room greatly but will always cherish my Fultondale memories! #BetterTogether
Learning is an act of bravery.
To learn a new skill, one must acknowledge that they don’t already know it, trust someone who does, and make an initial attempt.
Considering all that risk, we can understand how scary school can be.
How do you earn your students’ trust?
Sometimes, kids make bad choices. Sometimes, they really screw up. We hold them accountable... but we can also extend some grace. They need to know we still like them. They need to learn a lesson... but it is never constructive when they feel alienated from us.
Imagine if more school districts changed the way they look at managing student behavior? Shifting from traditional, punitive behavior management to providing interventions which lead to sustainable change is what our responsive discipline solutions are all about.
I had the opportunity to attend @MsSelfExEd’s professional development (and she happens to be my cooperating teacher for my student teaching!). I learned so much about the science of reading & the simple view of reading, and Dyslexia. Mrs. Self’s knowledge is never ending!
Thankful for @SamfordEd for giving us the great opportunity to attend the ALA conference this year! Amazing first day! Super informative last breakout session by @MsSelfExEd
Two of our student leadership groups were able to attend the 11 Principles Training as part of Hope Leadership Academy and network with leaders from schools in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. Thank you to Dr. Amy Johnston and Tamra Nast for serving as trainers at the event.
The Senior Education Leadership Team has the incredible opportunity to attend @CharacterDotOrg Conference on the 11 Principles Framework for schools to learn to cultivate a culture of character. We are learning so much and getting inspired for our future classrooms.
@ms_tarwater@teacherstone @ms_jrsmith @MrCotto96602981 @hyche_ms Yes! That strategy is so helpful and allows students to really see themselves develop. It reminds me of all that we have learned about metacognition in Reading and Planning!
This semester, the Junior class has had the opportunity to create lessons for @mbelancers classrooms, and one part of the project included writing a morning meeting! Such a great virtual project opportunity for us this semester!
