This would NEVER be possible if these universities had to rely on voluntary tuition and donations as opposed to getting billions in tax dollars. DEMAND that your legislators stop propping this up with your tax dollars.
Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson famously disagreed with each other on everything. But if you go back and read Jefferson's Notes on Virginia and Hamilton's Discourse on Manufacturing, you learn that they agreed that our nation would not survive being swamped by foreigners with no allegiance to our government.
This is a hill I will die on for the geographically challenged. Fantastic song…not about West Virginia the state. The Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah River are in western Virginia not West Virginia
This whole Virginia redistricting brouhaha is one of the most nakedly cynical partisan moves I've ever seen.
Deliberately & obviously violate process rules, run an insanely loaded ballot question, argue to the VA court that it can't rule before the election, criticize it for ruling after the election, & then use this all to declare our judiciary illegitimate.
Bravo.
If only Ketanji Brown Jackson had the courage, Virginia could ignore its constitution.
Seriously though, if you thought that anyone on the Court would take this up, find better sources.
Can you imagine that the Democrats are discussing lowering the retirement age of the Va Supreme Court to 54 which would force the entire court to resign (including the three that voted with them). Then stack the court with 7 justices who would have pledged to reverse the redistricting decision.
This is your Democrat party.
Power hungry thugs. Willing to burn a high court to the ground that dares to disagree with them.
They should never have power again.
Democrats are now discussing a plan to effectively fire all seven Virginia state Supreme Court judges — via lowering the retirement age by 21 years and disqualifying all of them — so they can appoint seven new judges to ratify their map. Wild: https://t.co/PCx5bA1MKq
What a stupid plan. This is why the founders decided that life time appointments were required for federal judges so butthurt politicians could not bully judges into ruling for them by threatening their jobs.
Extended interview: Former Nebraska senator Ben Sasse has metastatic pancreatic cancer. He spoke with 60 Minutes' Scott Pelley about where America has been and where it could still go.
Tonight is a good night to repeat what I said last August when Texas started this mid-cycle redistricting chain reaction.
Politics has to be more than a power grab. By either party. There have to be rules that everyone follows. Otherwise, it’s all about power and pretty soon there won’t be much left that holds our nation together.
It really is so egregious that Virginia’s wealthiest residents are straight up trying to steal voting power from the state’s rural and working class voters
