@MattyWindley@tas_zaf Apologies I tried to do so quick research on what a full A League program costs (men/women/youth) plus travel, stadium hire, AFC comps. Even at $10m - what community club can afford that plus a licence fee? $25m before a ball is kicked.
@mannman478749@tas_zaf@MattyWindley What about the OPL games and the NSD games and the Australia Cup games.
I've seen it across multiple sports. It's easy to turn up for an event, it's harder to turn up week in week out to watch Mariners at home on a Sunday at 5pm
@tas_zaf@MattyWindley User pays system. The licence is separate. You need to find another $20m a year just to run the team. Then you need to not lose to much or it's curtains or you find an owner (like victory have) with very deep pockets.
@tas_zaf@MattyWindley Yet they still lose money...
Bringing NPL sides in won't fix the broadcast revenue. Need a domestic transfer system. Victory have generated substantial transfer fees recently but still not enough
@sprint_quick@jimmy_paps@MattyWindley I disagree wholeheartedly that they would be automatically viable. Without very deep pockets - $20m a year - how can they survive? That's a lot of tickets and souvlaki
@TKoutsantonisMP Tell your mates in parliament to stop giving the cash required for this to work to AFL and it might happen. Community clubs barely can afford a senior program let alone moving to fully professional.
@tas_zaf@MattyWindley I've tried supporting my club in the NPL. All games are on Mondays and I live 90mins away
I'm happy to see some growth in the NPL, we can't have junior registration fees funding senior programs forever. It's tough, enjoy the win and I'll see a sold out lakeside for OFC PL
@Don_Erebus How do they fund it? It's a $15-20m bill every season just to compete, that's not to win the league.
Id love an open pyramid - but it's just not viable unless we are prepared to move to a NPL only model.
@tas_zaf@MattyWindley I am also vocal about the Victory fanbase. I've nominated myself to be on the member advisory group 3 yrs in a row and been knocked back.
Dollars hand over fist - that's football everywhere in the top flight.
@tas_zaf@MattyWindley Can thank the fine citizens of Footscray for that.
I don't think you still understand Tas. Not having a crack at your team. I'm just making a point you'd not get 10-15k to every game in the A League. It's a jibe at the league, it's tough to support.
@Victory19611@ALeaguedeals AFC rules state you cannot be a member of another confederation or their competition and FIFA Rules restrict competing in top flight comps for 2 different confederations
@tas_zaf@MattyWindley Plus the game was one off, not a crowd. Was nice to see a proper crowd v Victory - CFG never bring noise like that. Now would expect 5k minimum to each Championship game to show it can be sustainable.
@tas_zaf@MattyWindley Little boy? Rogue slur - especially at a 38yo. I think you've completely missed the point. Enjoy the win and turn up every week - it's easy to go to a big game, it's not easy going to a Sunday twilight game v Wellington Phoenix - we see crowds come and go regularly
@tas_zaf@MattyWindley Uh mate it was a cup final. Plenty of NPL games I've watched with a few hundred in the stands. It's easy to turn up once, but when so many South fans on the app despise the league how can you say they will? I say this as a fan who turns up every week and see crowds dwindle.
