It seems like urgent endoscopy is not better than early endoscopy for almost everything- Acute cholangitis following in the footsteps of Acute UGI Bleed. 👇👇@BritSocGastro@BSGTrainees@JAG_Endoscopy
During Easter 1982 the bacteria that causes most stomach ulcers and can lead to gastric cancer was first discovered.
Robin Warren (left) and Barry Marshall (right) tried and failed to grow the organism several times. It was only when the agar plates were left in the incubator over the five-day Easter holiday that numerous colonies of the bacterium developed. It became clear that a new bacterial genus had been isolated, which was eventually named Helicobacter pylori.
In 2005, Marshall and Warren were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discovery: https://t.co/8s8TWpF1jh

Prof Reddy on GI endoscopy in 2026: “We used to do barium studies but moved on to regularly seeing the stomach and colon. Now we want to do the same with the bile duct and pancreatic duct. This is possible with the cholangioscope.”
This year we will launch a BMJ commission on the future of the doctor.
We seek your support and your ideas for an inquiry built on the premise that if society seeks the best for patients it must also seek the best for its future doctors.

The gastroenterology and immunology communities are buzzing after a landmark NEJM publication (Sept 25, 2025) reported the first successful use of autologous CD19 CAR T-cell therapy in ulcerative colitis (UC). The patient, who had exhausted biologics and immunosuppressants, achieved sustained remission with mucosal healing—off all medications—for more than eight months.
So, what exactly is CAR-T, and why is this so exciting for IBD? 👇
In a patient with treatment-resistant ulcerative colitis, CD19 CAR T-cell therapy led to drug-free remission and mucosal healing, suggesting that B-cell targeting may offer a novel therapeutic pathway. Read the full report: https://t.co/qNxDzOO2Sm
