🌧️ Statement on the Onset of the March-April-May (MAM) 2025 Rainfall Season

The March-April-May (MAM) “Long Rains” Season has officially begun in some regions, based on two key criteria:
✔️ A wet spell with at least 20mm of rainfall over three consecutive days (10mm in the North).
✔️ No dry spell of at least 7 days within the following 21 days.

Onset Confirmed (10–16 March 2025):

✅ Highlands West of the Rift Valley
✅ Lake Victoria Basin
✅ Rift Valley
✅ Nairobi & parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley
✅ Southeastern Lowlands & parts of Isiolo County

Rainfall increased compared to 3–9 March, especially in the Southeastern Lowlands & parts of Northeastern Kenya.

Onset Dates for Areas Yet to Receive Rains

🔹 Highlands East of Rift & Southeastern Lowlands: Expected this week (18–24 March).
🔹 Northeastern Kenya: Expected this week & next (18–31 March), but may be followed by dry spells.
🔹 Northwestern Kenya & Coastal Regions: Occasional rainfall in March, but onset likely in April (peak for Coast in May).
