Woke up seeing a response from Dr PTR, the then Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu, to my tweet. I hope these conversations lead to more quality reporting on the issues of local governance (LG) & participatory democracy.

It is appreciable that there were good reportings (only in English media) on LG in the past few years by a few journalists, but I could notice there are still gaps. This is precisely the exact reason why I write op-ed articles in Tamil. Grateful to Hindu Tamil Thisai newspaper for providing me a platform to write 🌻💙

I also wrote an article recently (yet to be published) in which I criticised both DMK and TVK.

I hope these political fanatics from the parties don’t bite me for that and approach the issues in a constructive manner for creating a better democratic society.

Greetings to all the leaders of the INDIA Alliance parties. Vanakkam.

The future of India’s students has been gravely jeopardized by the BJP government’s mishandling of the education sector. A series of question paper leaks has led to the cancellation and re-conduct of major examinations, exposing widespread irregularities and systemic failures. Lakhs of students have suffered as a result, yet no one in the BJP government has accepted responsibility. The Union Education Minister, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, who ought to be accountable, has remained conspicuously silent.

In response, students and young people across the country have spontaneously taken to the streets in protest. This development should serve as a wake-up call for all political parties. The present situation has arisen in part because we, as political forces, have failed to consistently mobilise and fight for the issues confronting the youth. We should not regard Cockroach Janta Party an organisation that raise the concerns of young people as adversary. Instead, the INDIA Alliance must take up these issues on a broader platform, amplify the voices of the youth, and launch coordinated nationwide protests.

The Narendra Modi government’s flawed economic and foreign policy decisions have pushed the country towards a deep financial crisis. Our foreign exchange reserves have witnessed a steep decline, causing widespread concern. Rather than presenting a credible roadmap to address the situation, the Prime Minister appears content with merely urging citizens to tighten their belts. Just as the government’s incompetence during the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in immense suffering and the loss of countless lives, a major economic crisis is now unfolding that threatens the livelihoods of crores of Indians. It is our duty to expose this reality and spearhead a nationwide movement against the failures of the Narendra Modi government.

To effectively carry forward such struggles, mutual trust, understanding, and unity among opposition parties are indispensable. The approach adopted by the Congress party during the recent elections has caused dissatisfaction among several constituents of the INDIA Alliance. In particular, the Congress party’s electoral strategy in Kerala, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu weakened parties that have been among the strongest pillars of this alliance, including the Trinamool Congress, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the DMK. This is neither desirable nor beneficial to the larger cause of opposition unity. The Congress party must therefore undertake a sincere reassessment of its approach and explore ways to further strengthen and consolidate the alliance.

The INDIA Alliance brings together both national and regional parties. Differences of opinion are natural in such a broad coalition. However, such differences must not be allowed to escalate into divisions. The responsibility for maintaining unity rests not only with regional parties but equally with national parties. At a time when Centre–State relations are under unprecedented strain, national parties must re-evaluate their positions through the lens of federalism and cooperative governance.

In this context, the INDIA Alliance must adopt a clear and unequivocal position on the three-language policy being promoted by the BJP-led Union Government. Furthermore, I urge the Alliance to examine and deliberate upon the recommendations submitted by the Justice Kurian Joseph Commission to the Government of Tamil Nadu on Centre–State relations. Such discussions will contribute significantly to strengthening federal principles and safeguarding the rights of the states within the Indian Union.
