The measure of Pakistan's credibility:

1- Afghan students came for medical studies in Pakistan on a Pakistani government scholarship named after the national poet — the Allama Iqbal Scholarship. They’re in different years of MBBS program. Now they've been refused extensions in visa. What a shame.

2- Meanwhile, Pakistani medical students in Afghan universities are also suffering — not due to the Afghan government but due to the Pakistani government. [Note: they are around 5000. Their annual tuition fee is Rs4-5 million there.]

They got admission there after obtaining an NOC from PMDC. Now PMDC has delisted the Afghan institutions from its category of recognised institutions, and students are at the receiving end through no fault of their own. What a shame.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council's decision requiring Afghan medical students in Pakistan to return to Afghanistan is patently discriminatory and arbitrary in nature. The consequences of this decision are especially severe for female students, many of whom have already been denied access to higher education in Afghanistan amid Taliban’s ongoing gender persecution and now face the prospect of losing one of the few remaining pathways to pursue their education and profession. Many of these students will have devoted years studying medicine, only to see their education brought to an abrupt and unjustifiable end, with little prospect of being able to resume their studies elsewhere.

Pakistan has obligations under international human rights law to uphold the right to education without discrimination on the basis of national origin. Amnesty International urges the authorities to adopt a humane and practical solution that allows Afghan students, including women and girls, to complete their education.

The decision to expel Afghan students is shameful and inhumane. Afghan students, especially female students, cannot get an education under the Taliban in Afghanistan. Taliban known for terrorism are invited to deliver talks at NDU but Afghan students are expelled. #Cruel
