More than 500 activists set out from Bosnia and Herzegovina, aboard 17 buses and dozens of vehicles on a humanitarian convoy to the border of Palestine.

The convoy is calling for international attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank. The convoy has now reached Turkey.

Well there was a peep from Lindsey Hilsum and @Channel4News last night that I couldn’t quite believe what I was hearing.

The footage showed the laying out of flags and photographs of those 112 Palestinians whose bodies had been recovered from underneath the rubble of a residential block in Gaza: men, women and many children.

Hilsum then made an extraordinary comment about the “innocent and guilty” among the victims being indistinguishable thus giving legitimacy to the Israeli bomb that had killed them in the first place - the dead Palestinian civilians smeared even in death as potential terrorists. Not one of the 112 victims was given a name by Hilsum.

Then, as if under pressure to provide impartiality and balance, Hilsum’s report switched suddenly to an Israeli family mourning the loss of loved ones on October 7th. Hilsum reverentially listed the individual names of this family and the victims who also included children. They were rendered human and their innocence amplified by Hilsum.

Hilsum’s report presented such a striking contrast in the way the Palestinian and Israeli deaths were framed. One could be forgiven for thinking at critical moments in Hilsum’s solemn commentary that impartial reporting had given way to pro-Israel propaganda.

Suhaib Jabr, a 25-year-old married man, serves as the sole provider for his extended family in Al-Maghazi camp, Gaza, where they live in a small two-bedroom rented apartment shared by fifteen people due to the destruction of their original home during the genocide. His father, Ashraf Salah Ali Jabr, suffers from a serious heart condition, has recently experienced a stroke, and requires ongoing management of high blood pressure and diabetes, while his mother, Nahla Ahmed Abd Jabr, is diabetic and needs a wheelchair to aid her mobility. Two brothers, Salah Ashraf Salah Jabr and Mohamed Ashraf Salah Jabr, sustained injuries in the genocide that prevent them from working. His sister Alaa Ashraf Salah Jabr has paused her university studies because of financial constraints, and another sister, Aya Ashraf Salah Jabr, lives with the family along with her injured husband, Obaida Ayman Abu Dalal and their young son Abdullah Obaida Ayman Abu Dalal after losing their own home. Monthly medications for his parents alone cost between $650 and $750 and are frequently unavailable, making it difficult to afford essentials such as food, clean water, medicine, blankets, and rent. Suhaib's wife recently experienced a miscarriage due to inadequate medical care, adding to the family's hardships. He previously had issues with a prior fundraising effort managed by someone unreliable, prompting the need for renewed support to meet these critical needs, including helping Alaa resume her education and preserving the family's basic dignity amid the ongoing genocide.

Nemer Al-Masri is a 30-year-old married man and father of four young children, one son and three daughters, currently living in a tent in Gaza alongside seven other family members. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Gaza University in 2018 and had been working to establish a small business to support his family under difficult conditions. The genocide that began in 2023 destroyed his home and livelihood, forcing the family to evacuate multiple times, seven displacements in total, in search of safety. Nemer suffers from a herniated disc causing nerve pain in his foot, his wife has thalassemia, and his mother, who recently underwent surgery, is being treated for cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure, leaving her significantly weakened. With border crossings closed and food prices prohibitively high amid severe shortages, he struggles to provide basic necessities for his family and is seeking any available support to help them endure this ongoing hardship.

Muslim homes torched in Nepal

A Hindutva mob carried out a pogrom against Muslims in the Sunsari district, southeastern Nepal, with homes, businesses and mosques set on fire as the violence later spread to neighbouring Siraha district.

Families were forced to flee as entire neighbourhoods came under attack, prompting authorities to impose indefinite curfews and deploy security forces across the affected areas.

A dispute over loud music and religious flags during a Hindu procession near a Muslim area was the trigger for the violence.

But growing Hindutva radicalisation and the rapid spread of social media misinformation and inflammatory content are the deeper causes.

Nepal is an overwhelmingly Hindu nation with a small Muslim minority (5%).
