I mean, there are blue-collar workers from almost every community in all metropolitan cities, engaged in different occupations.

How is it possible that all 'maids' of Gurgaon are Bengali by ethnicity?

I was shocked to see the former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi posting this 'tone deaf' and borderline elitist meme.

We have failed these individuals in terms of education and employment.

They are forced to work as househelp to sustain themselves, far away from their home in West Bengal.

We get it that you are privileged enough to hire a 'Bengali' maid.

But you don't need to rub it on our faces in the guise of 'dark meme humour.' It's not cool!

It is a tragedy that a state that produced Vivekananda, Netaji, AJC Bose, Tagore, Bankim and Vidyasagar is today thought of merely a source of household help in the rest of India. While there is nothing wrong in working as a maid or driver (all honest labour should be respected), the cultural and economic decline of my home state is not the joke that this gentleman seems to think. Some of us witnessed the collapse over half a century, and find this obnoxious.
