One of my good friends had failed to come and see my family since I became a dad because he didn’t have money to buy me a gift!!!

His excuse was that I had gifted him when he became a father, so he felt it was only right that he did the same for me.

I felt genuinely pained that he had felt that way, especially because I’d thought he was someone who understood how my mind genuinely works when it comes to things like this. Sha, I went to his house, picked him up and brought him over to spend a nice afternoon with us!!!

I genuinely believe in reciprocity. But I’m also very big on understanding that people go through different seasons in life, and that you don’t have to kill yourself or cut your friends off simply because you’re going through a financially difficult season.

I also guess this is why I may never make a good friend to most people. I genuinely would come and see you without bearing gifts if I were broke, without feeling bad about it, even if you had given me the world in your own time!!!

I could give you one of my kidneys when you need it, but I genuinely can’t borrow money or go out of my way to buy you a gift simply because you gifted me!!!

Friendship isn’t supposed to be hard!!!!
