The High Commissioner of @UgandaCanberra, H.E. Dorothy Samali Hyuha, on Sunday, 28 June 2026, joined the faithful at St Mary’s Star of the Sea Cathedral in Darwin for Holy Mass celebrated by the Most Reverend Charles Victor Emmanuel Gauci, Bishop of Darwin and the Northern Territory.
Following the Mass, Her Excellency paid a courtesy call on Bishop Gauci, during which she conveyed her appreciation to the Bishop and the Catholic faithful in the Northern Territory for their continued commemoration of the Uganda Martyrs, a lasting testament to the enduring spiritual and historical ties between Uganda and the universal Church.
Her Excellency also extended an invitation to Bishop Gauci to participate in the Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations in Uganda. Their discussions explored opportunities for continued collaboration in community development, education, and humanitarian initiatives, while acknowledging the valuable contribution of the Ugandan diaspora to the social and economic development of communities in the Northern Territory.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by members of the Executive of the Uganda Community in the Northern Territory, led by Mr Crescent Gumisiriza, President, and Mrs Racheal Bakwesegha-Summersby, Vice President.
From the royal heritage of Kasubi Tombs to the spiritual reflection at Namugongo, the Ethiopian delegation’s journey through Uganda began with history, faith and identity. Then came Jinja where the Nile begins its historic journey across Africa before the wild welcomed them at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and the breathtaking plains of Murchison Falls National Park. At the Top of the Falls, the mighty Nile thundered through the gorge as if unveiling the true meaning of the Pearl of Africa.

From gorilla tracking to chimpanzee experiences, from breathtaking landscapes to warm community encounters, Uganda offered something rare:
A destination that does not merely entertain travellers.
It transforms them. For Australia’s travel market, Uganda presents a powerful long-haul proposition: Adventure. Wildlife. Culture. Conservation. Wellness. Story. The High commissioner Samali Dorothy Hyuha emphasised collaborations.

Uganda did not just host an Australian delegation.
Uganda hosted future storytellers, market-makers, travel architects, and destination ambassadors.
After a countrywide familiarisation journey, the delegation met Uganda’s High Commissioner to Australia Dorothy Samali Hyuha for a strategic reflection on what they had seen, felt, and discovered.
Present at the engagement were key voices from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uganda Wildlife Authority, and passionate tourism enthusiasts who understand one truth:
Tourism is not just about places. It is about perception, positioning, partnerships, and national pride.

There are places you visit. And there are places that visit you long after you leave.
Right now, Australian travel operators and media personalities are discovering that Uganda belongs in the second category.
Gorilla tracking.
Mist-covered mountains.
Communities that still feel human.
Nature that still feels sacred.
No artificial experience.
No performance. Just raw creation.
Uganda is not trying to become the next big destination.
Uganda is becoming the destination serious travellers whisper about before everybody else arrives. Visit Uganda. @JulzKagwa@TourismBoardUg

The Australians thought gorilla trekking was the peak.
Then they entered Kibale Forest National park.
And suddenly the jungle stopped feeling like tourism and started feeling like another civilisation.
Chimpanzees don’t perform for you.
They confront you.
The intelligence.
The communication.
The emotion.
The resemblance.
You leave Kibale asking uncomfortable questions about humanity itself.
Visit Uganda.
Some forests entertain.
Kibale awakens.
