Airtel has completed testing Starlink’s satellite phone service in Kenya, allowing ordinary phones to connect directly to satellites for WhatsApp, calls and M-Pesa where there is no network.

The Founder of Modern Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, in his memoirs From Third World to First, Singapore 1965–2000 narrates about moving Singaporeans from villages (Kampongs) and slums to apartments when he came up with the affordable housing program. The transition was faced with hardship and resentment. Some pig farmers were so attached to their animals that they tried to rear them in their apartments, and there were reports of people coaxing pigs up staircases. One family moved into a new flat with a dozen chickens and ducks, keeping them in the kitchen behind a wooden gate. Many residents were afraid of elevators and walked up many flights of stairs instead. Others continued using kerosene lamps despite having electricity or sold small goods from their front rooms just as they had in their old settlements.
