“I think Google’s goal is to turn into an answer engine instead of a search engine.
That is why they are getting rid of smaller publishers and keeping the big ones on the SERPs, they plan to partner with them and use their content in AI Overviews.”
Sorry. This is an insane quote from Danny.
Every site, large and small, gets caught up in algorithm updates. Even the most authoritative sites in the world (F500 brands, .gov sites) lose traffic sometimes.
Had these sites lost 15-20% of traffic? Sure, there'd be complaining. There always is, from everyone in the ecosystem. Someone always feels hard done by what ends up outranking them after a major update. But those kinds of updates can be chalked up to what one would reasonably call "normal flux" at scale.
But I think all or most of the people who were in that meeting have lost 80-90% of their traffic; some overnight. That would be a death knell for any business.
If their content isn't the problem, what is it then?
To me, it sounds like a tacit admission that Google's applied a classifier or some punitive action to thousands of domains and either doesn't care (smaller publishers are very obviously not their customers) or doesn't have the means of figuring out why it happened (because the systems have become too complex for anyone to truly reverse engineer).
Either way, it stinks.
@lilyraynyc@CyrusShepard@jonoalderson Sites like Scribd and Studuco, they don't replicate, people just illegally upload the original PDF on these sites and these sites make money with our content while our sites hardly shown by Google. Whose fault is this?

Average reader experience on Tom’s Guide.
But yet the small publishers are the problems regarding ad usage 😂
I only popped into this article because the title was so weird I had to see what was going on.
Discussing using a shoe for “Hyrox” that is objectively whack for it.
@rustybrick It disappointed me.
Because some people uploaded my work on Studuco and Scribd without my permission and those articles were ranking (till I asked them to remove them) but not the original ones.
My site was hit hard in March 2024, and it has been falling consistently since then
Top 5 instances where my articles on Scribd and Studuco are ranking on Google while my original URL is nowhere to be found.

Google is against keyword stuffing, but this article https://t.co/Rubc7gPEg9
is filled with keywords, and it's ranking well on SERPs. Why is that? @googlesearchc
@glenngabe It should be like this but I can show hundreds of examples where the blogs have irrelevant information and they are ranking on SERPs because they have high domain authority.
While writing a blog, I thought how to provide comprehensive, relevant, and new information that can truly help searchers and my articles rank until some good authoritative sites use the keyword and publish content around. It discourages me.
Hello @googlesearchc@searchliaison
I appreciate you working hard to show the best and most relevant results on GSE.
However, I like to bring your attention to this keyword
