200 helium containers are stranded in the Persian Gulf right now. Each one holds 41,000 liters cooled to -269°C. The containers have no refrigeration. No compressor, no cooling loop. Insulation is all that stands between the cargo and ambient heat, and it buys 35 to 48 days. After that, the liquid boils, the pressure valve opens, and the helium vents to atmosphere. Re-liquefying it requires a specialized plant. Most ports do not have one. Qatar's North Field supplied 33% of the world's helium as a byproduct of cryogenic separation at its LNG plants. On March 2, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. Spot prices surged 70 to 100 percent. EUV lithography requires 99.9999% purity helium for wafer cooling and no current substitute exists. The fifth helium shortage since 2006 has just begun.

Yes, Indians do cut corners, are often cheap and we do cheat. It is a real problem, but it’s not genetic. It is historical.

In Maus (excellent pulitzer winning graphic novel. Must read!), the son asks his father why he hoards and cuts corners. The father survived a concentration camp. Scarcity rewired his brain. Survival habits don’t disappear just because the environment changes. Don't our parents still keep old things safe.

India is only one generation removed from extreme poverty, high infant mortality, and fragile security. Our parents optimized for survival. We’re the first generation experimenting with excellence.

Poverty creates survival cultures. Prosperity creates excellence cultures. We’re in the awkward transition between the two.

You don’t lecture a survival culture into excellence. You outgrow it with explosive growth.

Already 3 generations ( one generation is 25 years) of the reserved category have enjoyed the benefits of reservations, if 3 generations of hand holding cannot make them compete amongst others as equals, what else can ?

As the most affected party of this largest handout in the history of mankind, GCs have every right to audit the funds allocated for these handouts, this bottomless pit has to be plugged

From now on Only one member of the reserved family should be entitled for reservation, it is the duty of that one member to uplift the family. None of the future generations in his family should be entitled for reservation.

If a dalit neighbour has a personal dispute with you, all it takes is a complaint alleging that you used a caste-based slur to fix you.

There is no requirement for a preliminary inquiry. The police can register the case and arrest you immediately, after which you are produced before a court and only then allowed to apply for bail.

Even if there is no evidence and the case eventually collapses, the damage is already done. You may be arrested from your home, face social stigma, cause severe trauma to your family, risk job loss, spend days in custody, pay legal fees, and deal with endless procedural hardships, sometimes even bail becomes uncertain, depending on the court’s discretion (read bribe).

In such situations, acquittal does not undo the punishment. The punishment lies in the process itself. A man in UP stayed more than two decades in jail for a false compliant.

This is the power the Atrocities Act carries in its present form. A law that offers no effective safeguards against misuse is an atrocity itself against the innocent. This is not an ideological argument, it is simple logic. Yet no one is willing to address it openly, because in a democracy, questioning such laws is politically dangerous.

And it could have ended there. But now, a miniature version of the same approach has entered universities through the UGC equity regulations, extending the same logic into academic spaces.
