The French state did not bring civilization to Africa.
It brought France’s needs to Africa.
The schools taught French because French-speaking administrators were more useful than educated locals.
The roads were built where the extraction required roads.
The laws applied where French interests needed legal cover.
The "civilization" was infrastructure for a project, not a gift.
And when the project ended, when the formal colonies became formally independent, France left behind borders that didn’t match ethnic realities, debt structures that ensured continued dependence, and CFA franc systems that kept African currencies tethered to Paris long after the colonial flags came down.
Then it expressed surprise and concern that the countries it "civilized" kept experiencing instability.
Then it expressed surprise and concern that the people it brought to France to do the work that French people didn’t want to do kept having children who grew up in poverty.
The surprise is not genuine.
The concern is not genuine.
What is genuine is the need for an explanation that doesn’t require examining the project itself.
AIPAC just announced $9 million more against Abdul El-Sayed.
We must fight back. My congressional colleagues and I have donated $1.4M to combat AIPAC’s spending, but Abdul needs more.
Please chip in whatever you can to Abdul’s campaign to stop AIPAC: https://t.co/lihr6N9fRL
Greta Thunberg: "The Green Party of England and Wales has acknowledged that Zionism is racism. This should be uncontroversial to anyone who has followed the livestreamed genocide in Palestine.
Zionism is obviously racism-in its origins and in how it's practiced. Israel is an apartheid state where people have different rights based on ethnicity.
The genocide would not have happened without Zionism, which is based on the radical idea that Palestinian lives are worthless."
Trump just endorsed Netanyahu.
No surprise. One authoritarian helping another stay in power.
Trump and Netanyahu. More war. More destruction. More genocide.
We must end the Republican rubber-stamp Congress.
We must stop all military aid to Israel.
My coworker's mother passed away last November.
She left her modest $190,000 house to him clear and free, no mortgage, completely paid off after thirty years of factory work.
He moved into the home in January to finally settle the estate.
Two weeks ago, a letter arrived from the state Medicaid estate recovery office.
Because his mother spent four months in a rehabilitation facility before she passed, the state quietly slapped a retroactive $114,000 lien against the property title.
He called the state health department, frantic, asking how a hospital stay could bankrupt an inherited home that had no mortgage balance.
The caseworker sighed and told him:
"Federal law requires state programs to claw back healthcare costs from deceased estates. The house cannot be sold or transferred until the balance is cleared in full."
He offered to pay a monthly settlement.
They said no. The full $114,000 is due in 60 days, or they foreclose on the property at a public auction.
A lifetime of working-class savings, wiped out overnight by a retroactive healthcare lien.
You don't own generational wealth.
You're just holding a property title until the state finds a legal mechanism to repossess it the moment you die.
They burned our libraries. Stole our gold. Cut off our hands. Castrated our men. Raped our women. Worked us to death. Stole our children. Drew borders through our families. Erased our names. Banned our languages.
Then wrote books saying we had no history.
These heads are not decoration. They are memory. They are witnesses.
In 1948, a photo summarized centuries of injustice. The man in suit and tie, standing before photographers, broke into tears. He was George Gillette, leader of the Mandan, Arikara, and Hidatsa tribes of the Missouri River.
The document in his hands was not a negotiated settlement. It was the forced secession of ancestral lands from his people to the U.S. government. More than 150,000 native ancestral acres, full of homes, schools, churches, and fertile fields. The US government forced him to hand over the land so they could flood it all by building the Garrison dam.
Gillette knew that with his signature he sealed a permanent tragedy. But if he didn’t, the tribes would receive NO compensation, The US government would simply take the land. Through tears he said "Today we sign under protest. Our hands are tied, but our hearts are sad."
The dam flooded entire villages, erased old communities, and buried centuries of indigenous history.
We must not whitewash American history in our schools.
In September 2022, Burkina Faso's economy was in freefall. Inflation was 14.1 percent. The budget deficit was 11 percent of GDP. Growth was 1.8 percent. The country was on fire.
Four years later, the Ministry of Economy and Finance presented the receipts. Inflation fell to -0.5 percent in 2025. The deficit dropped to 1.4 percent. Growth hit 5.3 percent and is projected to reach 6 percent in 2026. Government revenue climbed from 2,505.7 billion CFA francs in 2022 to 3,311 billion in 2025—an increase of more than 800 billion in three years. By the end of September 2026, revenue had already exceeded 3,000 billion.
The IMF confirms the core figures. Its 2026 Article IV consultation reported 5.3 percent growth in 2025, driven by a gold price boom and rising mining activity. It recorded average inflation of -0.5 percent. It noted the deficit fell from 5.8 percent in 2024 to 1.8 percent in 2025—a slight difference from the government's 1.4 percent, but still a dramatic improvement.
The funding behind these numbers is not foreign. The Patriotic Support Fund, financed by citizen contributions, mobilized nearly 750 billion CFA francs between 2023 and September 2026. It equipped the VDP, reinforced the armed forces, and funded development projects. The regional bond market brought in nearly 1,200 billion CFA francs in 2025, up from 773 billion in 2022. The first phase of the Diaspora Bond raised 151.5 billion—more than its target of 125 billion. The sovereign Sukuk raised 77.5 billion, exceeding its goal.
Economist Abdoul Kader Ouedraogo told AFP: "The country is seeking to finance itself. Ninety percent of revenue comes from taxes. And the deficit is better under control than in 2024."
Burkina Faso is fighting a jihadist insurgency that has killed thousands and displaced millions. It is under imperialist sanctions. It has been expelled from regional bodies. And it still grew faster than most of Europe.
This is what economic sovereignty looks like when it is not a slogan. A budget funded by its own people. A deficit cut by discipline. A war fought without borrowing from the institutions that want it to fail.
This is a template that Africa must follow.
Days before his election, Netanyahu’s extremist government is again cutting off food and shelter for 2 million people in Gaza.
This illegal and immoral collective punishment will starve children.
Not another tax dollar for these atrocities.

Israel doesn’t need to hide its crimes.
Because the U.S. has made sure the world won’t name them.
Genocide becomes "defense."
Ethnic cleansing becomes "evacuation."
Occupation becomes "sovereignty."
And the people trying to survive it all become "the threat."
This is not just propaganda.
It is the architecture of impunity.
3 wars: Iraq, Afghanistan, & Iran.
3 tax breaks to the rich: Bush, Trump, Trump
$10 trillion cost to the debt.
All Republican failures.
They have caused the financial mess.
Jacques Chirac said it, there is no France without Africa and its resources.
The AES, the main source of France's Uranium and Gold wealth closes its door to French exploitation, and look at the streets of Paris, it looks worse than the chaos they tried to bring to Mali through the fuel terrorism blockade.
Karma is a b**ch.
