Government of Uganda employs about 480,000 civil servants. There are other public servants not under civil service like the UPDF & agencies that support civil service.

All these make government employ less than a million people. We’re 50m Ugandans with 1.8-2m young people between 18-30 years old unemployed, while nearly 45-49% are categorized as NEET( Not in Education, Employment or Training).

You’re at home & it’s been years expecting to join civil service. Come on. Create your own job.

Supply something to those in the civil service. It could be food items or dry ration or window curtains. Put a washing bay somewhere.

Do online trade. Big people don’t go down town. Take shoes, undershirts, underwear to them.

I have never seen salons & barbershops near government agencies. Why? Put an executive hair saloon near a ministry headquarters.

Deal in agro-based produce. Farmers are stick with produce. Find some market & do food supply chain management.

Stand in the gap as middlemen & earn. Buy the coffee. Supply it. Buy hides & skins of cows & goats slaughtered in towns & villages. Dry them & supply to the Basajja Balabas of this world.

You can earn better than those occupying government jobs. Business needs connections. Yes. Not based on tribe, education, religion, or region. The language of business is profits.

I know you will ask me about capital. Where do you get millions you lay to people to connect you to government jobs? Go to cozy restaurants & bars. It’s young unemployed or semi-employed that spend millions a week there.

Open your eyes please! You don’t need a government job to live well & better. You need your brains to work. Many of those who worked in government till retirement, go home with nothing. They live a very lonely & poor lives. Is that what you aspire to be?

I think @SolomonSerwanjj brings back the idea of what LC 1 chairman was envisaged in the late heady eighties when RCs were real political authority. The days when they ensured “essential goods” reached everyone equally & were shared fairly. When service was done for the public. Here is to many more Serwanjjas taking servant leadership closer to the people at the grassroots 💪🏿

@nbstv @mnamayo2 With about 70-80% of MPs not returning to Parliament every 5 years, we are talking about 400MPs per term. This implies that the benefits this group is claiming for will probably target about 2,000 - 3, 000 surviving former Legislatures who have failed to take care of themselves!

Supreme Court and Constitutional Court/Court of Appeal complete an average of 2 and 18 cases, respectively, on a weekly basis! The rate at which backlog accumulates will ensure total denial of justice!
