Hopping back on Twitter to share the new article we have out in Science Advances, with @hongru_wang and Qiaomei Fu! Also sharing a great write-up by @so_dendritic, and for those who want to dig into the paper itself, the link is here: https://t.co/TYoacTtQKk
New research alert: "DNA Study Reveals When Tibetans Got their High-Altitude Super Gene" via @inversedotcom, @so_dendritic https://t.co/q0ZnCt72h9 quotes #urichmond biology professor & geneticist Melinda Yang @myanglab about a new study in @ScienceAdvances.
Student asking for advice - this seems like the exact opposite of what a company should do to help undergrads (esp. minorities!) in STEM. Is this the norm? Any advice I can pass along?
Attending my second GEP Alumni Workshop and loving the discussion and learning I'm getting from everyone in this community. From pedagogy discussions to ways to increase equity to building community, so much cool stuff. Looking forward to next two days. BINGO! @GEP_CURE
I loved teaching this course with @LHlusko as a GSI back in 2013. She taught me so much about teaching, and she and her course was a huge source of inspiration for the human evolutionary genomics class I now teach. Very excited more ppl will have access to these engaging lessons!
Since 2004, I taught #IB35ac Human Biological Variation at @UCBerkeley. In fall 2020, I turned it into a fully online course. Now I am a researcher @CENIEH. Instead of letting those videos gather dust on my back up drive, I am sharing them all. Enjoy!

On a train to Philly. Man gets on, no mask. Attendant says he needs one. He doesn't have one, wraps piece of clothing around face. Attendant leaves. Man removes covering. Says "fucking bitch."
The level of "Philly" brought into this man by fellow passengers is beyond.

Question for biology profs out there - when should students start looking for research tech positions for post-graduation plans? I thought this would more often be in the mid/late spring, planning for a fall start date, but I wanted to double check.
The review looks at the dispersal of humans in Asia and then pivots to how ancient DNA has helped us understand human genetic history in different regions of Asia. I also spent some time trying to define how I use 'ancestry' and 'lineage'. Anyways, glad it's finally out!
I wrote a review paper last year on human genetic history in Asia, and it was published a couple of days ago. Already a bit out dated with all the cool finds in the last couple of months, but hopefully still an interesting read! https://t.co/KLv7ESpX9q
It was an invited review in honor of Cavalli-Sforza's 100th birthday last year. I never knew him, but I enjoyed the opportunity to do a bit of research on him and the early days of studying human population genetic history.
@CharlestonCWKC I hate that it isnt listed in the email link. I have the students make me a list on a google doc with name of program and go with what the student wrote!
Question! Do you customize rec letters per school/job for one student? I always do this, adding the name of program and adjusting a bit based on program field, but as i make new individualized PDFs to upload, I'm starting to think this is not worth the time it takes...
