my issue with 'poetesses' in pop music is that it leads to overly pretentious word salad that doesn't quite say anything at all. and there's so much more to poetry than purple prose it really just reveals a superficial understanding of both mediums
the funniest series of events in the 2010s was:
1) this
2) BLM actually *protested* outside his first sold out show, basically just because they hated his music so much
3) he made a several paragraph facebook post apologizing to the black community basically just for existing
Atp the discourse gets messy because in the us “black” and “mixed” aren’t always treated as separate categories. someone can be biracial and still be seen socially/culturally as Black, while in other countries they’d simply be described as mixed.
