Rufai Oseni is arguably one of the greatest journalists of our time. His courage, incisive questioning, and commitment to holding those in power accountable make him stand out. A true force in Nigerian journalism! 🎙️👏
The anger behind this statement reflects something Tinubu’s APC should not dismiss as mere opposition politics.
President Tinubu had barely finished his inauguration speech on May 29, 2023 when Nigerians heard the words:
“Fuel subsidy is gone.”
Those four words became one of the defining moments of his presidency.
The problem was not simply that subsidy was removed. Nigeria had debated subsidy reform for decades.
The problem was the speed, sequencing and consequences.
Millions of Nigerians woke up to an economic experiment for which their incomes, transportation systems and businesses were simply not prepared.
Fuel prices jumped.
Transport followed.
Food followed.
Production costs followed.
And the ordinary Nigerian became the shock absorber.
That is why telling people today that subsidy removal was necessary does not automatically answer their frustration.
Necessary reforms can still be badly implemented.
Good economic intentions can still produce devastating human consequences when government fails to provide adequate protection during the transition.
And describing petrol subsidy as merely “the only thing the common man benefited from” may be an exaggeration, but it captures a deeper sentiment: many Nigerians believed cheap petrol was one of the few direct economic benefits they could actually feel.
The APC can publish revenue figures.
It can celebrate increased allocations.
It can point to macroeconomic reforms.
But Nigerians are entitled to ask:
Where is our own dividend?
Where is the dramatic improvement in transportation?
Where is the reduction in household pressure?
Where is the purchasing power that reform was supposed eventually to restore?
Political disagreement should not become curses or declarations that anybody voting differently is condemned by God.
But the economic anger underneath those words is real.
And Tinubu’s APC will ultimately have to answer it at the ballot box.
Because Nigerians were asked to sacrifice.
Now they are asking what that sacrifice bought them.
Assalamu Alaikum.
Hello everyone, family, friends, followers, colleagues, and all you amazing well-wishers,

When Justice Tanko was sworn-in in 2019, many ridiculed him and even maliciously said he was carrying a “Fulani bag” to the villa. Today, the new CJN used the same “Fulani bag” while he was being sworn-in by Buhari. But the so-called “intellectuals” have varnished today 🤣
