Min Aung Hlaing must immediately halt the air and ground attacks that junta forces have unleashed on Loikaw, Karenni State, lift the blockade of those seeking to escape and allow access for those seeking to provide aid and shelter. I urge UN member states to join this call.
Since the coup, an army compound in Myanmar has been turned into a secret interrogation centre with the capacity to hold hundreds. Using witness testimony and satellite images, @AJ101East and @ForensicArchi reconstruct this facility. Watch the full story: https://t.co/QdK1KQkQvR
Thank you so much. I fully share the view;
“but what they desperately need, is action”
“it is critical that nations stand with and for the besieged people of Myanmar who are being held hostage by an illegal military junta. It is time for strong, focused and coordinate action”
Myanmar borders on nearly half the world's population. The borders are porous. Covid in Myanmar is now out of control. A failed state can't bring Covid under control. New Myanmar Covid variants could threaten the world. Global cooperation to help Myanmar is more urgent than ever.
.@hrw and 200+ NGOs call on the UN Security Council to immediately impose a global arms embargo on Myanmar.
The UNSC’s failure to even discuss an embargo is an appealing abdication of its responsibilities to the Myanmar people.

Good thread with many important points. Burma's 75-year old ethnonationalist state-building project, centred around a Burmese-speaking Buddhist majority, with the military as its guardian and enforcer, has failed, will continue to fail, and is itself a root cause of instability.
In the three months since the coup, Myanmar security forces have killed "nearly 760 people...during crackdowns, raids, arrests, interrogations and random shootings." Victims include protesters, bystanders, residents. Here are 29 photos of junta brutality: https://t.co/yTYhRniRfN
