Huge concern for imprisoned Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong, who's facing new national security charges despite already serving four years and eight months in prison for his pro-democracy activism.
The new "foreign collusion" charge laid against him is shrouded in secrecy amid reporting restrictions, meaning we don't know the maximum sentence Wong faces. If the charges are "serious," he could face life in prison.
Hong Kong's judiciary has now scheduled a combined plea hearing and sentencing for Sept. 2. Wong has previously indicated he'll plead guilty.
The unprecedented practice of hearing a plea and sentencing on the same day indicates the regime's intention to bury his case and keep him in jail indefinitely.

Powerful statement from Marshall Islands calls on China to explain the SLBM test "targeting the South Pacific"; reminds China of its obligations as a Treaty of Rarotonga signatory; & to recognize "that a region asking for peace is not a region inviting a demonstration of force."
elmbook (榆林書店) independent bookstore has announced it's closing after 29 years. It's 1 of 2 bookstores barred from the official HK Book Fair this year tho it's had a stall there every year since it opened. In 2023 a pro-CCP outlet accused it of selling books violating the NSL

This is one of the clearest views of how Myanmar junta regime's reckless airstrike destroyed the religious building.
This strikingly showcases the Myanmar junta regime's alarming disregard for religious sanctity, as it continues to wreak havoc on spiritual sites. Hundreds of Christian churches and Buddhist monasteries have already fallen victim to the junta's indiscriminate airstrikes.
The religious building destroyed by the airstrike in this video is the Myoma monastery in Inndaw town, situated in the northern region of Sagaing division in Myanmar.

The killing of a delivery driver by police as they tried to disperse cost-of-living demonstrators on Thursday night has intensified protests across Indonesia.
Protesters say they see Affan Kurniawan’s death as symbolic of the problems they face themselves.
Protests continue across multiple cities in Indonesia, including Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Medan, and Bandung, after police ran over and killed a motorcycle taxi driver during an anti-gov't demonstration in the capital Jakarta.
To our Indonesian Friends.
We have seen what has happened today & in recent months. We see your corrupt gov't setting its forces on peaceful protesters, grabbing more power, abusing people.
We stand with you and will do what we can to amplify your voices & struggle.
In solidarity

Today, more than 30 cars carrying Chinese military and government personnel arrived in Lashio.
The evidence shows that the Chinese government's non-interference in the internal affairs of a neighbouring country has been voided.
Whoever is thinking dealing with Myanmar military junta is the way forward should listen to this. You are dealing with the lowest level of human with zero morality.

I am sorry #Mayanmar as I have to leave to #India with a broken heart and let you die under the rubbles.
And I am happy because, I can’t see the pain you are going through.
As I can’t see myself helpless in front of guns,
