"He has to go play."
Says the mother, clutching the bat of her son, Vihan, 11, who died after a tree fell on the school bus he was travelling in, in Mumbai. She says her son will return and go play, just as he did every day after school.
All of you, especially those who have children, can imagine the unbearable pain she must be going through. You bring a life into this world. You love them, nurture them, teach them values, witness their first smile, their first word, watch them run into your arms when you come home from work, and create countless precious memories. Once you become a parent, your children become your entire world. The thought of losing them is something no parent should ever have to endure.
This fate would still have been understandable had it been a truly unavoidable accident. But, as usual, there were warning signs. Residents of the area where the tree fell on the bus had repeatedly complained to the BMC about the condition of the trees.
In fact, the Garden Dept of BMC had also warned the Road Dept of BMC that road excavation was damaging tree roots, making the trees vulnerable to collapse during the monsoon. It asked them to stop digging near roots, remove the debris and warned it would be held responsible if any tree fell. But it wasn't taken seriously.
Now, the mayor has ordered an inquiry. Now, tree pruning will begin. Now, every necessary action will be taken. Sarkari kaam hota hai, lekin balidaan ke baad. Vihan ne balidaan de diya hai. Ab kuch dino tak sab kaam honge.

Despite improved digital connectivity helping pregnant women access information, we must regulate the hidden trap—a nexus of private hospitals pushing C-sections primarily for money, not medical necessity.
Monetary incentives drive over 9 lakh preventable C-section surgeries annually, largely because a C-section costs 2.2 times as much as a normal delivery.
We need to address this preference for private hospitals which is being exploited by private hospitals.

India's battle against lifestyle diseases is intensifying, with the latest National Family Health Survey (#NFHS-6) revealing a sharp rise in both #obesity and #high#bloodsugar levels among adults. Nearly one in three women and more than one in four men are now overweight or obese, while the proportion of adults with elevated blood sugar has climbed significantly since the previous survey. The survey found that 30.7% of women aged 15-49 years were overweight or obese, up from 24% in NFHS-5. Among men, the figure rose from 22.9% to 27.3%. At the same time, the proportion of women with high blood sugar levels or taking medication for diabetes increased from 13.5% to 17.8%, while the corresponding figure among men jumped from 15.6% to 20.9%. @timesofindia@MoHFW_INDIA@JPNadda #health #india
During my internship in Obstetrics at CMC Vellore in 1994, Caesarean sections were relatively uncommon, even in a tertiary-care referral centre.
Obstetricians were routinely trained to conduct normal deliveries in situations such as breech presentation, twin pregnancies, and even certain difficult deliveries. Over the last three decades, however, the Caesarean section rate has risen dramatically across India, particularly in the private sector.
Some of this increase is undoubtedly due to genuine medical indications and improved access to emergency obstetric care, which has contributed to reductions in maternal and neonatal mortality.
However, published Indian studies and NFHS data suggest that non-medical factors may also play a role, including medico-legal concerns, convenience for healthcare providers, financial incentives, declining expertise in assisted vaginal deliveries, and maternal preference for a planned birth or avoidance of labour pain.
While Caesarean section is a life-saving procedure when medically indicated, it should not be viewed as a risk-free alternative to normal delivery. Compared with vaginal birth, Caesarean delivery is associated with higher risks of infection, excessive bleeding, thromboembolism, longer recovery, and complications in future pregnancies such as placenta previa, placenta accreta, uterine rupture, and repeat Caesarean deliveries.
Babies born by Caesarean section may also have a higher risk of transient breathing difficulties and altered early microbiome development.
The WHO has consistently emphasized that Caesarean sections should be performed when medically necessary, not merely because they are available. The goal should not be to maximize or minimize Caesarean rates, but to ensure that every woman receives the right mode of delivery for the right clinical reason.

#Women may be living #longer than men, but they are also spending far more years #battling pain, #depression, #anxiety and other #disabling conditions, according to a major global study published in The #Lancet Public Health. The analysis, based on data from 204 countries and territories, found that women bear a disproportionately higher burden of several chronic and non-fatal conditions that affect quality of life, while men are more likely to die prematurely from fatal diseases and injuries. Researchers identified low back pain as the single largest condition disproportionately affecting women worldwide. Women also experienced higher burdens of depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, headache disorders, musculoskeletal conditions and dementia. @timesofindia@MoHFW_INDIA
Pearson International insider exposes serious security failures at Toronto, Canada’s biggest airport.
“We joke that you could walk out carrying a cruise missile and they wouldn’t even stop you.”
INSANE
Pearson Airport employees are swapping luggage tags.
That means innocent Canadian’s have their names attached to luggage full of drugs.
These Canadians are then detained overseas.
There’s 17 cases, that they know of, where this has happened.
So far, half a dozen arrests have been made.
Here’s three ways you can quickly protect yourself:
1) Video tape you weighing your bag & putting into the conveyor
2) Put an AirTag in your luggage
3) Tape your luggage tag with clear tape (they can’t unpeel & restick it)
