Instagram dropping encrypted DMs while X pushes encrypted Chat is a pretty clear fork in the road.

One model says: trust the platform.

The other says: design the system so the platform should not be able to read it in the first place.

For a lot of people, DMs are more important than the feed now.

Would encryption be enough to make you switch where you message people?
