Following Somaliland's lead, here we have another majority Muslim country forming relations with Israel
Burkina Faso showcases Realism
National Interests of countries will always explain their actions
Not perfomative & misguided sense of solidarity on the middle east affairs.
Uyghur genocide survivor Abdulahat Nur a Canadian school bus driver and Prime Minister of East Turkestan in exile escaped China’s repression over 25 years ago. He lost two sons murdered by the communist Chinese and has a daughter still missing/trapped in China.
Beijing has locked up hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs in camps for slave labor and alleged organ harvesting. The US and Canada are the only two nations to officially call it genocide.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Arab League, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and most Muslim nations stay completely silent.
Worse: Palestinian and Somalian delegations toured East Turkestan for Chinese propaganda and declared “no genocide here’.
The same crowds marching in Western streets simply ignore the Communist Party’s industrial-scale persecution of Uyghur Muslims or condone it labelling it as propaganda
@SheabiaForever Because backing Somalia makes it easier for Eritrea to align themselves with those backing Somalia. It's a political tool. Egypt, Saudi Arabia etc are against Ethiopia so Eritrea will align themselves with that block.
An urgent message to the International Maritime Organisation @IMOHQ and the IMO Secretary-General: @IMOSecGen
We must pay attention to the realities of maritime governance in the Horn of Africa. Since 1960, #Somalia has entered into only a limited number of international maritime agreements. Yet on 26 June 2026 - a date of profound historical significance for Somaliland-the Federal Government of Somalia announced the accession to 15 maritime conventions and agreements connected to the international maritime framework.
This raises a fundamental question: how can international maritime processes move forward without meaningful consultation with the authorities that have exercised effective administration and control over the coastline concerned?
#Somaliland stands on a legal and historical foundation rooted in its 1960 borders, when it gained independence as a separate state before entering a union with Somalia. Since 1991, Somaliland has maintained its own institutions, security structures, democratic system, and maritime administration.
For more than three decades, Somaliland has responsibly managed over 850 km of coastline, including port operations, maritime security, fisheries management, customs, environmental protection, and coastal administration. The reality on the ground cannot be ignored.
The strategic importance of Somaliland’s coastline has never been greater.
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints - connecting global trade routes between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Recent instability around other strategic waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, has demonstrated how essential secure and reliable maritime routes are for global energy and commerce.
As global markets shift and energy prices fluctuate, the importance of Bab el-Mandeb and the stability of the Red Sea region becomes even more significant.
This is a moment for the international maritime community to stand on facts, law, and operational reality.
The IMO must recognise that maritime governance is not only about signatures on paper — it is about the institutions, authorities, and communities that have protected and managed these waters for decades.
This is a call to the Government of Somaliland: protect your maritime interests, engage internationally, and act with urgency.
The world is watching. The time to secure Somaliland’s rightful place in global maritime discussions is now.
@IMOHQ

For nearly forty years, no one has seen images of the Rhodesian war criminals who bombed Hargeisa to the ground and strafed fleeing men, women, and children.
That is until today…
The Somalian government hired Rhodesian pilots specifically to operate the slower Hawker Hunters, which were ideal for low-level strafing and bombing runs against civilian targets.
I now also have the address of one of the war-criminal pilots.
Will the government of the Republic of Somaliland allow him to golf away his remaining days, or will there be justice for all those who were lost?
When future generations ask why these animals were never investigated or hunted down…
what will the reply be?
Our UAE friends are having a field day with the reports of secret normalisation between Saudi Arabia and Israel, now reportedly confirmed by multiple sources.
What I like is that they don't resort to insults or nastiness, unlike some of our adversaries.
Just elegant, civil banter.
How can you not love the UAE?
Incredible news!
Colombia's newly elected president just announced his first act will be to open an embassy in Jerusalem and renew their alliance with Israel. 🇨🇴🇮🇱
@thebhlub We don't need to give an Ultimatum to the UK or EU. Since they want to cowardly sit on their hands, we'll move on and they'll lose a Martine trade corridor that's essential to them. No one is begging Europe to do the right thing. If they can't act on their self-interest then bye.
#Somalia has 'territorial integrity' the way its Deputy PM has a Kenyan passport - fraudulently, and only until someone checks and deports their "Deputy Prime Minister".
The poster child for failed states strikes again and looks like the world is fully aware. Thank you #Kenya.
When the Arab League boycotted Egypt in 1979 following its peace treaty with Israel, Somalia, Sudan, and Oman were among the only Arab League members that maintained diplomatic relations with Egypt and did not sever ties despite the regional boycott.
I found NYTimes reporting on 20 Nov 1979 of the matter.
This is the reference Somaliland president @Abdirahmanirro used in his address on 26June independence day last night pointing to Somalia's "double standards" and defending Somaliland's right to form relations with Israel.
📍 A rare interview with a British officer who served with the Somaliland Camel Corps in the 1920s…
He described his journey and the people of Somaliland:
"They have big characters. Very intelligent people. They were basically a democracy, people of Somaliland liked to express their views."

Your community really needs this support. @ApsanaBegumMP must acknowledge her constituents and back the UK-Somaliland Engagement Bill. Voices must be heard. #Somaliland@rushanaraali
G' Day mate
When was the last time you supported Somaliland with a retweet?
Well, today's your chance.
Happy 66th Independence Day, Somaliland!
