A young girl in Pakistan was FORCED to sign a marriage contract with a FORTY year old MAN
Should America BAN Islamic Sharia Law in all 50 states immediately?! 🚨
France emptied its prisons of "prostitutes" and shipped them to Louisiana to be married off.
In 1719, France needed to populate its struggling Louisiana colony. The solution: round up women from the streets and prisons of Paris, label them "public prostitutes," and send them across the Atlantic. One ship was literally named La Mutine, the Mutinous Woman.
Not all of the women were really prostitutes. One was a girl jailed at 18 for being pregnant out of wedlock and another who sat 19 years in prison for a murder she had an alibi for.
They were married off to convicts, sometimes in mass ceremonies and dumped in the swamps of the Gulf Coast. Most did not survive the first years. But those who did built New Orleans, and became the founding mothers of the American Gulf South.
These are some of the last photos of Elvia Cortés, taken in Colombia on May 15, 2000.
The white device locked around her neck was a bomb.
Early that morning, four armed men had broken into her home. They restrained her, forced the explosive collar around her neck, and demanded 15 million pesos. If she did not pay, they would detonate it.
Then they left her with the bomb.
Elvia contacted the police. Bomb disposal officers arrived, including Jairo Hernando López, an explosives technician who began trying to remove the device.
For hours, she waited as officers worked to save her. Photographs show her standing beside the road and sitting on the ground, with the collar resting on her shoulders.
At one point, she asked López if he was going to let her die.
“Stay calm, ma’am. We’ll get through this together,” he told her.
But during the attempt to remove the collar, it exploded.
Elvia died at the scene.
López, the man who had promised to save her, died on the way to the hospital.
