Exciting news...
🚨 https://t.co/GCUjRDOu73 has been acquired by NVIDIA! ❤️🤙
We started Brev with the goal of building the best damn developer experience possible.
We’ve been working closely with NVIDIA since August, and we couldn't be more excited to team up.
I'm infinitely grateful for our early users, investors, and team that supported us thus far. So excited for what's coming 🤙
The entire tech industry (save for Anthropic) has come out in favor of open source AI.
So what happens next? Will Anthropic change its lobbying efforts? Not likely. Now the gaslighting begins:
“Nobody is trying to ban open source.”
“We just want to limit who can use it.”
“We just want to limit who can contribute to it.”
“We just want to limit how powerful those models can be.”
“We just want to make sure the guardrails (we lobbied for) can’t be removed.”
The net effect will be the same. They won’t stop until they kneecap open source. The rest of the industry needs to watch these guys like a hawk.
NVIDIA is *by far* the largest contributor to @huggingface (the central hub for open source software) in the world. Since ~Jan 26’ the gap between them and the 2nd largest contributor (Alibaba) has completely blown out as you can see in the chart
@Mononofu - FYI

Nobody is saying that all software has to be open source. What they’re saying is that open-weight AI should be allowed. By implication, they’re rejecting your company’s incessant machinations to kneecap the open model ecosystem. Read the room.
@djabatt Hmm, I actually agree with you, but then a place like San Francisco abuses that when real estate prices 30x and land owners don’t want more housing supply
Make property tax reflect current property values and watch a generational scramble to build new homes
Making SF only accessible to millionaires is insane
They pay nearly no property tax because of Prop 13, while you pay for their healthcare + other benefits you'll never enjoy.
Build the damn houses over Marina Safeway. Younger people in SF need a shot at family formation that doesn't hinge on getting liquid from OAI / Anthropic.
Very happy to support this on behalf of Google. We have long benefited from open source, are big contributors to open source and in fact have consistently made open weights models with Gemma available from @GoogleDeepMind@demishassabis . Onwards!
Gaussian splats still feel early.
They're so insanely cool and used in things like autonomous vehicles yet still feels like capabilities are well beyond the products available
There's a livestream about them in a few days if anyone's interested
