@kmtildsley@BobFromAccounts@LouHaigh Very few sensible people will hold that belief. When I bought a 2.5l tin of paint for my fence, I picked it up by bike. When I bought 30l of paint for my decorator, I used a car 😁
@kmtildsley@BobFromAccounts@LouHaigh You’re quite right, Kevin, there are several activities for which a bike is not ideal. But there are many more for which it is! I still have a car but hardly use it these days. I tend to shop more often and buy less. I have a walking impairment but cycling is not a problem.
@Axolotol3@CHAIRRDRF@TfL@MetCC@MetCycleCops I reported a similar (actually, worse, as he tried to drive into me while shouting) incident to Arriva and TfL. They said they’d speak to the driver and sent me a copy of the 40-page manual which has a line somewhere about cyclists being entitled to use any lane 🤦🏻♀️
@LucyFaulkes @willnorman@TfL I agree. Multimodal journeys on Google Maps would be really useful. You should be able to pick which modes you like/want, and then various options could be offered.
@AdamBtweetin @GoingDutchDEN When on my bike I facilitate cars overtaking me if there’s a clear road ahead. They are faster and I don’t see the point of holding them back. But I’m often overtaken by drivers with no road awareness, who get me stuck at a pinch point I could easily get through, just because…
@ediz1975@CBikeLondon@theJeremyVine@MikeyCycling@lb_southwark Driving a bus must be extremely stressful. But the tendency of some (fortunately not many) drivers to use their huge vehicles as weapons is insanely dangerous and cannot be condoned under any circumstances. It would be like allowing nursery teachers to slap crying babies.
@CBikeLondon@theJeremyVine@MikeyCycling@lb_southwark I’ve had three bad experiences with buses this week - one as a witness, when the driver of a double decker took a fast corner inches away from a pedestrian who dared to cross at the wrong time. I sincerely hope the drivers get reminded of how dangerous their huge vehicles can be.
It’s not true there are no tariffs on EU goods as a result of Brexit, @mrjamesob If you buy anything online with a value above £135, you now have to pay customs duty (% varies depending on what it is, but generally 10% or so).
27 seconds in, at the red lights. Bus driver stops inches away from me and gestures I should be in the cycle lane. a) It's my choice, not compulsory. b) Using his bus to "punish" people on pushbikes? Wrong and dangerous. Better training needed @TfL@willnorman@London_Cycling
@ShaneUtdfan99 @Sheardyweirdy@MikeyCycling Maybe that particular cyclist was bloody minded. Just like some drivers appear to be psychopaths intent on maiming cyclists & pedestrians. But most people will make sensible choices. I can think of a specific cycle lane I hardly ever use because it leads to an awkward junction.
@carlafrancome The only time I ever came off my bike was on a small road in the West End when a passenger got out of a car stopped at the lights as I was filtering past. Since then, I always assume they will open doors without looking. And many actually do! 😢
@neilofharringay @willnorman Even in Haringey you can see a few cycles now. But yes, the lack of safe routes is shocking. I often give up on cycling a certain route for shopping or visiting friends because of it 🥲
@JustRed_69@GillMPhoto@carlafrancome Thanks everyone. I’m charging up my lights. I’ll see how I feel when it’s time to set off. But the bike is soooo much nicer than the tube!
