@FishOceansCAN@smithsonian@nmn@InvertebratesDC Long before it was 3D scanned, this Primnoa resedaeformis specimen was collected off the coast of Nova Scotia in the late 1800s! This slow-growing, long-lived cold-water coral is found in both sides of the Atlantic and is an indicator of vulnerable marine ecosystems.
2/2 The 3D printed corals were planted in the ocean, using the ASTRID ROV, and will be monitored by the team to see if any marine species would use the fake coral as habitat! Learn more about cold water corals: https://t.co/aH0jGYItpX
In this article, Cui et al found that considering the many dimensions of #biodiversity provides a useful tool to guide spatial prioritization of #protectedarea expansion.🌿 Read more at https://t.co/U4RR2g9ITg

WOW: Major sting operation & leaked documents expose massive corruption of COP28 president, who secretly used UN climate talks to push oil & gas deals with foreign governments.
Bravo to @ClimateReport_ in collaboration with @BBCJustinR & @Channel4News. https://t.co/UEyQnyyWUZ
@AirCanada worst customer service I’ve ever received. One delay after another and rude agents putting the blame back on us as paid customers at YYZ. Ridiculous.
@AirCanada I’m at Toronto Pearson YYZ after missing my connection to Lisbon - was sent to Aisle 3 (or 2??) to get hotel and meal vouchers and no agent in sight!!! What is going on!? Worst customer service from Air Canada starting at 4:30 today.
So grateful that this prehistoric animal shared a snapshot of its life with @DFO_NL and @NG_Research in our mission to protect 30% of our oceans by 2030. This Greenland shark has likely been around for several hundreds of years - here’s to hoping it lives at least hundred more!
@drjwlawson Can't believe this Jack - stay strong and be persistent! Ridiculous that anyone with a ruptured appendix would be sent home with antibiotics. Take care
DFO employee Cynthia Mercer captured amazing photos of a #right whale passing below the lookout at Cape Spear, near St. John's, NL yesterday evening! If its the whale "Gandalf", he was last seen in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in the summer. Keep an eye out for this rare whale!
At its heart the climate and ecological crisis poses a very simple question to humanity: what do you want? Unlimited consumption, unlimited air travel, SUVs, every food every season, plastic in your blood, no wilderness, more pandemics?
Or human health and a habitable planet?
Interesting and useful study case on the effectiveness of a protected area on fish rebuilding and how it complements/interacts with other regulatory tools (spoiler: it can help, but cannot compensate for overfishing)

The ecosystem approach is getting real. @NAFO1979 just adopted a framework and ecosystem reference point to complement stock assessments and inform fisheries management decisions about the potential risk of ecosystem overfishing.
I’m happy as a clam 😊

In large part due to the incredible genius and hard work of @mkoenalonso. Congratulations my friend - you deserve many accolades for this amazing announcement. Your work will go down in the history books!
The #NAFO meetings concluded today with an agreement to adopt a groundbreaking approach to #fisheries management that considers the broader ecosystem. There are also new international protections for the vulnerable and long-lived Greenland shark. Read more:https://t.co/hOF4r9a04l
