As I'm getting older I'm doing more backwards walking.
When we walk backwards we work on our deceleration muscles and posterior chain while strengthening and protecting our knee joint. It also improves stability, posture and balance.
Walking backwards has also been shown to have positive effects on people who complain about knee pain and discomfort.
To get started take it slow. Find yourself a field where you have ample space or use a treadmill on the lowest speed.
Keep your head and chest upright while reaching back with your big toe for each step, rolling through the foot from toe to heel.
Shout out to @kneesovertoesg who popularized walking backwards.
He’s a genius when it comes to building strong knees. Give him a follow.
In the meantime, give backwards walking a try. Your knees will thank you.
