I just realized that the core message of Mark Carney’s Davos speech—“Taking the world as it is, not as we wish it to be”—is blatant plagiarism from the Buddha, probably Jesus too and any prophet before or after. I think they’d be down.
“Business as usual” is not free. Yet in transit investment decisions, BAU is often seen as “do nothing”—a non-choice.
On Eglinton East LRT in Toronto, we showed that buses couldn’t absorb projected growth. A higher-capacity line isn’t just better—it’s the only viable choice.
In Canada, risk management in transit delivery focuses on cost overruns + schedule delays.
What’s missing? Risk to benefit realization.
If benefits aren’t protected in delivery, you don’t just slip the schedule—you chip away at why the project existed in the first place.
I blink and California’s solar and battery grid capacity increased. By 2028, batteries expected to meet all overnight demand.
So in <3 years the sunshine state and world’s 5th largest economy will be entirely powered by the sun. It’s possible ☀️

5. Foster real connections. One way authoritarian regimes isolate people is by encouraging fear and distrust. Fight back by building strong relationships with neighbors, friends, and coworkers. Find ways to connect beyond political differences and strengthen your community.
The anti-bike lane legislation passed by the Ontario government saw a record number of comments, over 19,000. Virtually all comments seem to be in opposition. The ERO has released a summary. Meanwhile, in Toronto, decisions are regularly made based on 5-50 public comments.
If you’ve got kids it’s worth keeping in mind that pretty much all the science is pointing to our society having collapsed before they are the age you are now.
When I presented our assessment to Metrolinx, TTC, and the City in 2022 that made the case to close Queen at Yonge (to speed up and derisk OL construction) I pitched this transit mall idea. No one stepped up to champion it but I haven’t given up ✊
I’m in my fit for purpose era.
“[…] the current regulatory framework for railways in Canada is not fit for purpose. We need a Fair Rail for Passengers Act to clearly define mutual responsibilities.” Sign the petition: https://t.co/fzNNKTsanx
Taking CN to court should not be necessary, and full cooperation over safety is not negotiable. The government must pass a Fair Rail for Passengers Act to ensure that the mutual responsibilities of host railways and passenger operators are respected.

Hi friends!
I wanted to give a quick update on The Onion’s purchase of InfoWars, which we can’t wait to relaunch as the dumbest site on the internet.
Long and short of it: We won the bid and — you're not going to believe it — the previous InfoWars folks aren't taking it well.
Why isn't #onpoli's housing supply keeping up with housing need?
New expert report commissioned by my @EnviroDefence team:
Ontario governments' restrictions on mid-rise apartment buildings have been making it impossible to end the housing shortage.🧵👇
