Harris County commissioners voted 3-1 Thursday to finalize a combined property tax rate of 67 cents per $100 of taxable value, the highest in the county’s modern history.

PROPERTY TAXES ARE SKYROCKETING all over Texas right now (exactly as I predicted last session).

Local elected officials are blaming the state government... and the state government is blaming the locals.

Spoiler alert: they're BOTH correct!!

Here's why:

1) Local elected officials are are absolutely responsible when they vote to raise property taxes by adopting a tax rate higher than last year's effective tax rate (also called the "no-new-revenue" rate), and...

2) The Texas government is absolutely (and ultimately) responsible because it authorized the local governments to enact these outrageous property tax hikes.
