i was never able to get into a FAANG, didnt even get an interview because I was so bad at data structures & algorithms AND had bad grades
but when i DID join a company with a campus that big, i had to go there everyday with 10231293 others like me, entering a building, sitting at my desk for 8 hours and doing absolutely nothing, something flipped.
that wasn't for me, i hated every minute of it
i'm happy sitting in my village, building things i love and care about
i'd rather take that road outside of this building and drive somewhere less chaotic
I’m American.
After my PhD, I went to India.
What I experienced dismantled my Western worldview.
Here are 8 lessons that permanently rewired how I see life:👇
1. Death is not hidden from life.
Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada spoke about the contradictions of human nature:
“Some people dream of having a swimming pool at home, while those who have one hardly ever use it. Those who have lost a loved one feel a profound sense of loss, while others often complain about their living relatives. Those without a partner long for one, while those who have one often don't appreciate it. The hungry would give anything for a meal, while the satiated complain about the taste of their food. Those without a car dream of owning one, while those who have a car are always looking for a better one.”
The key to happiness is gratitude: truly seeing and appreciating what we already have, and understanding that somewhere, someone would give anything for what we take for granted.
This paragraph by Richard Feynman hits so hard:
“Fall in love with some activity, and do it! Nobody ever figures out what life is all about, and it doesn’t matter. Explore the world. Nearly everything is really interesting if you go into it deeply enough. Work as hard and as much as you want to on the things you like to do the best. Don’t think about what you want to be, but what you want to do. Keep up some kind of a minimum with other things so that society doesn’t stop you from doing anything at all.”
I am fully convinced that 2019 was the last normal year we ever had. Ever since then, it feels like everything’s broken. Everyone is constantly anxious, time moves too fast, and nothing actually feels real anymore. The world as we knew it is just gone
Recently bought Dune HD Pro Vision 4k player and 5Tb HDD for watching 4k remux files on my OLED
Having a great time and addicted to building a remux collection of great movies 😀
Shout out to @rippersdelight for providing amazing collection
I don’t know how I am surviving here in Pune without my TV & Soundbar, but man, I would say if you can get a TV or a decent, reliable projector, don’t think twice, invest that money. It’s money well spent. Once you start watching a file ending with .mkv or .mp4 in Dolby Vision + Atmos along with a good bitrate in video, there is simply no going back. You’d never enjoy a tv series or a movie on an iPad, iPhone, or on a laptop ever again.
One good SSD (either 1 TB or 2 TB), HDD (at least 5 TB to 10 TB), one Pen Drive 256 GB, one TV (LG or Sony) or Projector (XGIMI or BenQ), one good soundbar ideally Dolby Atmos supported (Samsung or Sony only) is all you need to live a heavenly life. There is simply no alternative to the quality you’d enjoy with this setup.
