4/ Students are being dumbed down by a lack of instruction because teachers can’t teach when they don’t know how. A science of reading course should be required for every teacher. They should be tested in literacy and the science of reading in order to be certified as a teacher.
Paid family leave is critical for new families. Babies need to bond with family members. Bonding takes time. Help nurture the next generation. Support family leave. https://t.co/PjCsy2Ocfd
@KarinHiebert @ElspethTwixen I’m in Los Angeles, where portions at some restaurants can be very generous. And one order of fajitas can be taken home in a takeout container (who could eat all of it at once?!) and will last for four more meals. I warm some with rice for dinner, or poach an egg …
Remember that Zoom re: poor-quality #EdPrep/#ProD/teacher credentialing/#ScienceofReading/#StructuredLiteracy we had earlier this year? I acted in good faith, you made me promises but you NEVER replied. Now you’ll “redouble efforts to listen to & work with all parents”—I’ll wait.
Here’s my receipt from that beautiful May day we met face-to-face over Zoom earlier this year, @rweingarten.
You have all my contact information, but do you have the courage to talk, listen to &/or work with “all parents”? We’ll see…
For those of you who don’t “get” this. Ss w/ dyslexia need read loud to ACCESS their education like Ss w/ quadriplegia need ramps to ACCESS the classroom. Do not take away the ramp & then be pissed that parents are asking for a ramp b/c the kid is already in the building. 🤦🏽♀️
Tonight is proof that the consumers of education, especially parents, have the loudest voices. Let's use them to improve education for every child, starting with early elementary reading.
The new tack by @MetroSchools seems to be to deny teens w/ #dyslexia IEPs or 504s any read aloud or text-to-speech on tests. The reason? “They won’t get it in college so can’t have it now.” 🤔 I have a book of ~300 colleges that allow it so…I call BS. #FAPE@MNPS_AT
Consider “Jimmy Red Corn”.
It was on the brink of extinction.
It was saved, in secret for a few decades by bootleggers in the islands close to Charleston, SC who found that it made spectacular hooch, or moonshine whiskey.
It is now slowly being grown at boutique farms.
Build Back Better makes historic progress on child care, universal pre-K, fighting climate change, providing tax cuts for the middle class, housing, and more.
Democrats are working to get this done.
Terry McAullife has been endorsed by Barack Obama, Stacey Abrams, and Joe Biden.
Glenn Youngkin has been endorsed by Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The choice is clear, Virginia. Go out and vote!
We are the only developed country in the world that doesn’t have paid leave—and it’s a disgrace.
I joined @PaidLeaveforAll today to make the case that now is the time to pass paid leave, and I’m not going to stop until we do.
"Head Start not only works on the kid, it works with the parents. My mother learned how to be assertive on behalf of her children because I was in Head Start.” – Loretta Sanchez
Thank you for sharing your beautiful #HeadStart story, @LorettaSanchez.

Every school in America should be required to post the percentage of students reading on grade level in large, bold, type at the top of their web page. Create a sense of urgency. Develop a guiding coalition to help solve the problem. Etc.
Funding alone will never be enough to ensure each IDEA eligible student gets what they most need to graduate proficiently literate as most teachers are not credentialed in reading science &/or #structuredliteracy instruction.
