First responderes shield us from the violence of reality, and the toll on their mental health is real. Sharp is building alternative therapy for warriors, by warriors. At a16z, we support our first responders and are incredibly proud to back Sharp Performance.
NEW: The Space Force Showed Us Its Weapons Used in Iran and Venezuela (!)
We also spoke with a Guardian who deployed to SOUTHCOM for the Maduro raid, then had 72 hours to pack up electromagnetic warfare equipment and head to CENTCOM for the Iran war 👀

👤 About me: Nuclear Submarine Officer transitioning to launching my own company. 12 years Navy.
I have been a posting slug!
How about that launch triple header last week: Starship, Crew 13, and Heavy!!!
Terrestrial low band spectrum acquisition and FCC approval for Starlink Mobile constellation!
And I am always relieved, grateful and proud when we complete a crew mission— welcome home to Mother Earth Crew 12!
We announced an agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio that will pave the way for @Starlink to become a major mobile carrier in the US.
With this new spectrum and our Gen2 constellation, Starlink Mobile can ensure Americans have access to high-speed mobile broadband no matter where they are → https://t.co/1Uaf48v5pm
SpaceX has launched every rocket in their lineup, 3 different vehicles, from 4 different pads, in 3 different states this week.
They also lifted basically every “category” of payload. Starlink, Crew, Commercial, and Military.
WHAT. A. WEEK.
In this episode of First Principles, we'll learn about asteroids, the telescopes that find them, and the satellites that protect us against them.
✧
In 2004, astronomers discovered a new, 60-million-ton asteroid hurtling towards Earth.
They scrambled the world's best telescopes, traced its path in the sky as accurately as they could, and concluded that the asteroid, 99942 Apophis, had a 2.7% chance of causing "regional devastation" here on Earth.
Today, that estimate has been revised down. We now know that Apophis will make its closest pass on Friday, April 13th, 2029, missing Earth but only just barely: the asteroid will pass closer than satellites in geostationary orbit, and will be visible to the naked eye.
Exactly how we know that — and what we would do if we determined an asteroid really *was* heading our way — is the focus of today's episode.
In this episode, we'll visit the telescope that discovered Pluto, one of the biggest optical reflecting telescopes in the world, and the factory floor of @AstroForge, a company building satellites for asteroid mining and planetary defense.
Special thanks to @MattGialich, whose connections to Lowell Observatory made this episode possible — and whose meteorite collection is the envy of space nerds everywhere.

I think 10 orbital launches a day is super doable and there are already plans for lunar constellations so it has to be the Martian based launch, the amount of on site infrastructure you’d have to build would be incredible
Does the Apollo lunar module count as orbital rocket from the moon? Hahah
September 28 2044 predictions:
- first orbital launch from another planet
- 10+ orbital launches a day
- starlink v15 constellation around Mars + Moon
- Dreamchaser still 9 months away from launching
18 years to:
• develop a reusable rocket
• complete 700+ orbital launches
• launch more satellites than the rest of humanity, combined, all-time
• expand payload mass per rocket from <1 ton (Falcon 1) to over 100 tons (Starship)
(And now imagine the NEXT 18 years)
@yatharthmann You never hear a single expert in the field where Elon has worked say negative things about his expertise or intelligence
literally just outsiders
