@aaron_lubeck@luusssso this context?!? it’s completely in context with other contemporary UChicago towers - there’s literally another TWBTA tower (Logan Center for the Arts) on the Midway…
@rowyourboatyvr@YAppelbaum Nope, 20% are affordable:
- 4% of Phase 1 units exclusively for Squamish Nation members
- 16% are affordable rates set by CMHC
The rest are market rentals, so speculative investors cannot just buy them up.
@Zdravko1979@sam_d_1995@ryderkessler Siffert's basic facts are correct, but they have the wrong takeaway and incomplete understanding of moving chains. + building affordable and luxury are not mutually exclusive.
@thompspicks@UrbanCourtyard yep, looks pretty segregated to me! Many of the adjacent suburbs have the mid-rise Haussmann-esque buildings too - it doesn’t go to tall/sprawl immediately…
European style mid-rise residential is overrated and residential skyscrapers are underrated. Better shared amenities, better views, less road/street noise, more lifts, more efficient for transport planning, etc. To the extent they create street shading that is a *good* thing
Condon: "Land value increases with density. Period."
Meanwhile, land values in a mansion-only district increased 5x. Landscape architects are not economists.
