One reason I became disillusioned with progressives is because the progressive infrastructure cultivated and trained Kyrsten Sinema, and candidates like her, for years. Sinema in the mid-2000s was a bisexual punk cheerleader and organizer against Bush. Lifestyle branding.
Basically these desires to make bills worse, and preservation of the filibuster come from a very cynical view that independence from the ideological wing of the party (regardless of how good that policy is) is best political path forward.
The truth is Sinema has supported the min wage hike earlier, and even claims to support it now. She said she doesn't want it as part of the Covid relief bill, which means she's literally prioritizing Senate dysfunction over a popular position that she claims to support!
People tend to sometimes over-attribute politicians behavior to raw political calculations and under attribute it to ideology. I think Sinema et al genuinely do not want a $15 minimum wage even if items politically desirable. They have bad and wrong views they are pursuing.
By narrowing eligibility for COVID relief payments, Senate Democrats will save a negligible amount of money at a high political cost. @EricLevitz writes that moderates must stop putting their fringe obsessions ahead of the Democratic Party’s best interests https://t.co/ZXHs0ZiXaT
Texas - we hear you. You didn’t want to be part of our electrical grid. And now you’ve removed your mask mandate & are allowing large crowds to gather. We hear you! COVID is a hoax! So u don’t need our precious vaccine. We’ll send it to ppl who are saving lives by wearing masks.
“People who live in states with political leadership I oppose deserve to die lonely deaths on ventilators” is absolutely depraved moral logic, even before you get to the tabletop-smooth brained understanding of how disease works.
