You don’t need to model the world, do you think those plants and fungi are modeling the world? They have been on the planet longer than we have been. From engineering perspective yeah I get it, scientific curiosity point RL is one of the fundamental learning processes nature has come up with.
Standard RL assumes a stable world. The real world may not.

I’m happy to share that my work on quantifying Markov deviation in reinforcement learning has been accepted at RLC 2026.
This project started as a simple question: how do we know when the Markov assumption actually holds?
The deeper I went, the more it became about understanding the limits of our representations and the assumptions we build into learning systems.
Grateful for the opportunity to contribute, and for the community that continues to push these scientific questions forward.
@emollick This sample sizes are just 120. Why is this work get so much traction? They are not even measuring meta processing abilities of students. If they memory my RAM can remember better than me 😅
@iScienceLuvr All current training methods optimize for correlation relationship between variables, we need to be careful pushing these methods to medical science communities. Medical sciences must be grounded in causal models.
@SteveStuWill Do you happen to know what were the top causes? What I know is the baby heads were getting bigger and bigger and surgical methods were not successful in old days.
@deviparikh Not holidays yet, but SF does start to hollow out by the end of the month before Thanksgiving kicks in. Everyone’s off to retreats or mini escapes, so they cram all the meetups in before November’s over.
Breaking News: James Watson, who made one of the biggest breakthroughs in science by helping to discover the structure of DNA, died at 97. https://t.co/OwiOU6ifWr
@dioscuri These people we call leaders are just throwing buzzwords and repeating things they hear on podcasts, I am surprised why are bad leaders emerging every where. Is this the beginning of the great decay?
