One of the most powerful series of school assemblies I ever saw was in an area of deprivation. Once a week, teachers presented on their educational/career journeys (voluntarily!) in front of the school. Students could see alternative life paths sketched out by real people

A bit late to the party, but this is an issue that still needs to be addressed; perhaps also by schools and businesses forging more links with each other so that the gap between the knowledge and skills taught at school and what is required for businesses is bridged…
