I was honored to join the @ipinst Women, Peace and Leadership Symposium. In addition to highlighting the profound challenges Afghan women face and the courage with which they continue to resist, I shared what security means for women and girls in Afghanistan today.
For a schoolgirl, security means access to education and the freedom to choose her future. For a journalist, it means reporting without censorship or detention. For a human rights defender, it means speaking out without fear of retaliation against herself or her family. For rural women, it means access to healthcare, freedom of movement and economic opportunity. Women sustain Afghanistan, but their resilience must never be used to excuse inaction. International solidarity must go beyond sympathy. It must mean sharing resources and power, advancing Afghan women’s rights and justice, and ensuring that Afghan women have a seat and a voice at every table where their country’s future is decided.
NWI Board Member Negina Yari @Neginayari will join the 9th Annual Women, Peace and Leadership Symposium to discuss resilience and new leadership for the Women, Peace and Security agenda.

When Afghan women and girls are denied the right to learn, speak, and live freely, solidarity matters profoundly. Thank you, @malala for joining us at Where Justice Lives and for your unwavering commitment to defending Afghan girls’ education and amplifying the voices of those fighting for their rights.

These photographs bear witness to the People’s Tribunal for Women of Afghanistan in 2025. They capture the quiet preparation, the courage of survivors as they shared their testimony, and the moments of care and healing that followed. Each image honours women who endured Taliban brutality simply for standing up for their rights, dignity, and freedom.

Afghanistan’s human rights crisis demands sustained international scrutiny.
At #HRC63, we join 91+ Afghan civil society organisations and 8 international organisations in calling on states to renew the Special Rapporteur’s mandate, maintain dedicated reporting on women and girls, address violations against marginalized communities, and urgently operationalize the IIMA.
Accountability cannot wait.
90 countries lost citizens in the attack on the World Trade Center. In order to make sure it NEVER happens again we must:
Call terrorism what it is.
Cut off those funding it.
Deny safe haven.
Enforce the Security Council's sanctions.
Share intelligence.
Hunt down those who plan attacks.
We all need to fight this scourge until it is defeated.
PAKISTAN: Journalist Sayed Qasim Hashemi and artist Hamed Ehsas, both Afghan nationals who fled Afghanistan immediately after the Taliban takeover, have been missing for over two months, since 4 July, from Islamabad. Since then, their families have not been able to reach them since, and the police authorities have refused to register cases. The circumstances raise concerns that they may have been subjected to enforced disappearance or arbitrary detention.
Pakistani authorities must urgently investigate their disappearance, establish their fate and whereabouts, and provide answers to their families.

Grateful and honored to serve as a Graduate Assistant with Augusta University’s MPA program. I’m excited to continue learning, contributing, and growing with a community that has already been such an important part of my academic journey. Go Jags! 🐆💙
81 years. Zero women Secretaries-General.
The UN has never been led by a woman. The 2026 selection process is a chance to change that.
CIVICUS is calling for a feminist woman to lead the UN and for a Secretary-General committed to human rights, accountability and meaningful civil society participation.
