@Andy_Ball_819 @acoyne No I get it - (I should have added a “vs. Hybrid”). My point is there is the question of what’s fair/right in our current Westminster system, and there’s the separate (and equally valid) question of if/how to change to a different system with a PR element.

But in our current Westminster system, having ridings selected FPTP doesn’t represent the will of those ridings.

The logistic of the reform party forming didn’t reflect a surge in liberal support, just an artificial splitting of the right

@rollie1356 @beehugger29 @IshatReza Like what? A fringe party is not going to get any seats in a ranked ballot system. It literally just allows a voter to say how she wants her vote counted (even if her preferred choice doesnt win) in her riding.

@rollie1356 @beehugger29 @IshatReza Don’t confuse PR and ranked ballot. The argument you’re making is one people sometimes make against proportional systems. A ranked ballot represents the will of the constituents of that riding. No speculations involved.

( unless you’re being cynical and stating the goal of Canadian elections is different, which might be true). Re:the cbc article - MMP is NOT ranked ballot.

They realize that would be unfair and not representative of the will of their party members. (I guess they are less concerned about the fairness and the will of the whole Canadian populace though…)

@Andy_Ball_819 @acoyne It’s a recipe for allowing people to use their vote to chose what they want. Whatever the majority of Canadians choose to do with there vote, is a separate question - but they should have that right
