Me explaining the cave concept to my husband:
Me: to gain knowledge you must first admit that you are ignorant to many things.
Him: negative. I know everything.
sounds to me like he’s trapped in the cave .... may need you to step in. @ProfessorDEG #i2e21
@Noah13231481 I feel like the only problem with this is that in order to DO good things and have an ultimate GOOD goal we need to be wise. In order to be wise we need knowledge. In order to obtain that knowledge we must first understand that we do not have the knowledge. #I2E21
I think what the people is lacking in the cave is the one excellence of character @ProfessorDEG doesn’t want us talking about on the exam. COURAGE. They don’t have the courage to dive into the abmiss of the unknowledge to spark the knowledge of reason. That is their downfa #I2E21
Accepting what one already is aware of is the “safe” thing to do. Discovering new horizons, learning and doing new things can be scary. Maybe that’s why those people in the cave didn’t want to know about the outside world. Life was ok as is, why potentially ruin it? #I2E21
@BrenaManning@Emilylew0 I definitely disagree. I suppose being able to admit that you don’t know something is hard for many but not for me. I wonder why that is that we have such a hard time admitting our faults when we can grow & become better (become educated and gain wisdom) from it #I2E21
A True Leader would want to educate those around and shed light on the knowledge of this newfound ignorance. Regardless of the circumstances or consequences ( like everyone thinking you’re crazy). Despite the uneducated beliefs, they should still ✨listen✨#I2E21
For the Susan situation, I had a question for all you lovely people out there- would you rather be told the reality of the situation (embezzling funds, bankruptcy) and die knowing OR would you rather die as she did with a smile on her face? Would it matter to you? #I2E21
I would definitely use the experience machine just to witness those experiences. While it wouldn’t be mine, it would be nice to know or view something from another’s shoes. But that’s because I’m nosey. #I2E21
Imagine actually living in a false reality where ALL your dreams come true. I’d be completely freaked out. It doesn’t seem natural and doesnt fit the definition of reality to me. Reality includes please, pain, happiness, sadness. All these factors make life - life. #I2E21
control over emotions play a huge factor of how we handle our pleasure/pain and the mental intensity of each, BUT it doesn’t change the fact that we feel it and experience it. Therefore, being advanced mentally with control over emotions is completely different than feelin #I2E21
@JCethicsaccount@SydneyEthics I actually agree with this. We think it’s weird that in certain Indian culture they worship cows. Technically, we have no say what is right and wrong when it comes to others cultures. What’s normal to us isn’t normal to another. #I2E21
@student_ethics Agreed. However, one should always try to keep themselves in mind too. Singer did a great job of proving how we could help other without putting ourselves in a bad situation #I2E21
@LeahStavrides This is one of the most agreeable statements simply because it allows a form of self interest ( not putting yourself at a loss) while also implementing the idea of us helping others. It seems as a win-win #I2E21
@livwasnock I think so. The poor are the ones working the most. They provide the most labor and product from that labor. The rich depend on the poor - they’re the ones paying the poor. Without the poor there is no need for labor. #I2E21
@DanyalHasan2011 I disagree. Donating a bit here and there would not equate to donating a vast amount each time. Especially if we have the means to continuously build our finances and luxuries #I2E21
@DanyalHasan2011 Yes I agree that squid games does show a lot of the principles and values talked about in our lectures. It goes to prove that some people definitely can act solely on their own interests while fulfilling morally just actions. #I2E21
