Watched French film-noir "Le Doulos", from Jean-Pierre Melville, of course. But no one ever mentioned the 8-minute one-shot police station scene!! Inspector questions thief (Jean-Paul Belmondo) in crowded detective office, with camera following characters around (and around).

JULY 20, 1776 — WASHINGTON REJECTS PEACE TALKS

New York City, New York — Admiral Richard Howe tried again on July 20 to negotiate with General George Washington. He sent one of his officers, Lieutenant Colonel James Patterson, to attempt to meet with Washington.

Patterson’s mission was to convince Washington to accept a letter and discuss prisoner exchanges. Patterson landed on the mainland and was taken to Henry Knox’s headquarters, where Washington was waiting for him.

According to Knox, “General Washington was very handsomely dressed, and made a most elegant appearance. Colonel Patterson appeared awe-struck, as if he was before something supernatural. Indeed, I don’t wonder at it. He was before a very great man, indeed.”

Ultimately, Washington made it clear the Americans were committed to defending their independence and that if Admiral Howe wanted to continue negotiations, he should contact Congress in Philadelphia.

Richard Donner's 16 Blocks: well-staged thriller with a 1970s vibe. This twist on the buddy movie sees Bruce Willis & Mos Def navigating the deadly streets of New York. Willis is good here, balancing downtrodden character mode with heroics. Interesting stuff & Donner's last film.
