As a Muslim, I laugh when Muslims tell non-Muslims, "Relax, Sharia is only for Muslims."

But then reality gets in the way.

Non-Muslims have been told not to eat publicly during Ramadan. Businesses have been restricted from selling alcohol. Trucks carrying alcohol have been seized and destroyed. Hotels, bars and recreation centres have been shut down for violating Sharia-based rules. Non-Muslims have even faced prosecution for blasphemy.

And yet we still tell non-Muslims, "Sharia is only for Muslims."

How does that make sense?

Once religious rules are enforced through the state, they no longer affect only the people who believe in them. They affect everyone living under that law.

So let's stop selling non-Muslims a watered-down version of Sharia just to make them comfortable.

If we are going to defend Sharia, at least have the honesty to defend what it actually looks like when it is enforced.
