A huge emergency response was called to a hotel in Manchester on Monday afternoon (February 3) following a serious incident.
Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to a concern for welfare report at the Holiday Inn, which houses asylum seekers, on Oldham Road near to Newton Heath at around 4.30pm.
A man, whose age was not confirmed, was taken to hospital from the scene after a fire was reportedly started in one of the rooms. His condition is understood to not be described as life-threatening or life-changing.
Fire crews also attended the incident to distinguish the blaze on Monday afternoon. Witnesses reported seeing multiple police and ambulance vehicles in attendance.
The Manchester Evening News understands that a man had attempted to set himself on fire at the hotel before emergency crews arrived.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said in a statement: "At around 4.30pm today (Monday 3 February 2025), we were called to a reports that a business premises was on fire on Oldham Street in north Manchester. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: โShortly before 4.10pm today (Monday 3 February), four fire engines from Manchester Central, Phillips Park and Gorton fire stations were called to attend a commercial building fire on Oldham Road, Manchester.
โCrews arrived quickly and used two hose reels, four breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and a gas detector to extinguish the fire. Firefighters remain in attendance and are working alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe.โ
