@_Sheehogue_ nobody seems to have read the sundial, but it's one of my favourites - basically an iteration on we have always lived in the castle, but more of an ensemble piece where everyone is equally inflicted and there's even less satisfaction. god shirley jackson rules.
@_Sheehogue_ can't go wrong with soy cuba, rio zona norte is great even through the 360p/mildly broken subtitles i could find, the wolf house is at least very interesting, though mileage may vary more there. i can't say i feel smart recommending five films from 1.5 continents.
@_Sheehogue_ also a long way from being an expert, but the hardest part for me is always finding an anchor, and philippe coutinho (edificio master in particular) and patricio guzman (nostalgia for the light) have made some of my favourite documentaries
@btholteanu@hering_david (and to be a little fairer to the former, '68 is mostly remembered through the unambiguously leftwing french movement. in italy it was a much more mixed precursor to the years of lead, but he was more afraid of the leftist students than the rightists)
@btholteanu@hering_david it's interesting that both visconti and pasolini were left wing right up until the 1968 protests. visconti was terrified of them, and pasolini wrote about sympathising with the cops as "children of the poor".
@lovessmallsong late to this, but i'm drawn to bitesized pieces within bigger pictures recently... bolaรฑo's nazi literature in the americas, eduardo galeano's children of the days, anything by renee gladman. seconding the jackson rec, obviously. the sundial's a fun one everyone forgets
@regularaugust my biggest posting enemy from the flash music game forum i was obsessed with in 2014 (we made albums and lore / argued a lot about communism) switched to they/them pronouns on facebook recently and i'm way too smug about it
@lovessmallsong probably too late but it seems to be that the kind of extension it was running as is obsolete now. no idea how that works but https://t.co/1HG1CYzj9b is fine now
@_Sheehogue_ my early 2000s teachers warning us wikipedia vandalism was the biggest threat to truth now seems quaint, but the linkchain to a paywalled swedish piece about bergman supposedly admitting to raping his partner reminds me it's sometimes good to check these things anywhere else.
@scramsey6@_Zeets very late to this but i was also wondering and eventually discovered these are collected in a book called How to Start Writing (and when to stop)
