The single most serious issue facing the NHS is the impact of staff exhaustion and burn out from working at or over capacity, shortage of beds, covering for vacancies and sickness levels, worsened by stress, Long Covid and NHS waiting lists. The sense of moral injury staff suffer, heightened over the last four years, is corrosive of mental health and job satisfaction. Will the Government respond to this evidence? If so, they must conclude that restoring staffing levels and pay justice will do more for patient safety than league tables, top-down managerial bullying, AI, targets and threats of reform without funding. We urgently need evidence-based policy to restore the NHS and its staff to good health and back on track to a safer service for patients.

💚Mental health support
There is no such thing as “a sick note culture.” There is a record high NHS waiting list, crippling housing costs, widespread food poverty, stagnant wages and inadequate benefit rates, a broken social care system, dire mental health services, and closed Sure Start centres.
When a government demonises those seeking refuge, tries to punish people with disabilities and attempts to criminalise the destitute and the homeless, you are no longer living in a civilised society… but in a dystopian hell.
